Book Blurb

When Adam Tyler’s sister announced she was pregnant, Adam decided to move from Portland, Oregon, to Phoenix, Arizona, to fully embrace the uncle experience. However, he didn’t count on the move being delayed until three days before Christmas—and three days before his sister’s due date. And he definitely didn’t count on finding a scorpion in his bedroom. Cue the panicked calls to exterminators.

Garrett Strong doesn’t consider himself at all remarkable—his ex certainly didn’t think so—and Garrett’s pest-control business is circling the drain. Although Adam is his first new client in months, that isn’t the only reason Garrett goes above and beyond for him. He feels a real connection to the younger man and intends to do everything in his power to make sure Adam feels safe and welcome in Phoenix—venomous intruders notwithstanding.

Book Review

Adam Tyler, of 'An Every Day Hero' by E.J. Russell, knows his life is going to change drastically when he decides to move to Phoenix, Arizona, from Portland, Oregon, to be near his pregnant sister. But he never considered how different the weather and the fauna would be until he encounters it in the shape of a huge scorpion that is lounging in his bedroom. Adam needs to be rescued, but being a few days before Christmas, no one has time to help him. Adam does not give up; he dials the phone one more time and gets Garret Strong. When Garret hears the desperation in Adam's voice, he knows he needs to help him.

Garrett gets to Adam's as soon as he can, convinced that he has to help rescue him by doing his job and getting out of there, but when he sees Adam and how helpless he seems to be, Garrett is instantly drawn to him, not just by his lack of understanding about what it means to live in the desert, but he feels a physical attraction as well. Garrett is determined to keep a professional distance while he goes above and beyond what he would normally do for clients. In gratitude for all Garrett is doing for Adam, Adam asks him out on a lunch date. They both enjoy their date as they get to know each other; they talk about their families, their jobs, and even having a friendly 'argument' over who the best comic super hero is. Garret keeps telling himself to not get his hopes up, but he likes Adam so much, that he can't stop thinking about them getting together. Adam is having the same thoughts, trying to figure out how he can convince Garrett that they would make a good couple. Adam wants to repay Garret for saving him and comes up with a solution to help Garrett get more clients.

This is a fun story about two hot guys and the comedy of errors that keeps them apart. I've never lived in the desert with scorpions and snakes, and after reading this story I'm fairly sure that I won’t be moving there any time soon. The education of preventive measures required to keep them at bay was informative. The tale is told with wit and humor, along with some misunderstanding and self-doubt that often serve as a barrier between people getting together later than they could have without it. Thanks, E. J. Russell, for a sunny, warm Christmas tale, for a change, instead of a snowy, cold one.
