Whenever he enters my restaurant, I can’t take my eyes off rookie officer Silas Bixby. He’s much too young for me—and too human. I’m a fox shifter. Few humans will have anything to do with my kind, and those who will are criminals, not cops, but still… I can’t stop fantasizing about how I could show Silas everything a shifter can do.
When my uncle tries to force me back into the family fold, he puts Silas in danger. I vow to do everything I can to see my family brought to justice. I might not survive, but if I do, there might be a chance for Silas and me.

In the best tradition of the ‘Law and Supernatural Order’ series, this third book is about a mixed-species couple – in this case a shifter and a human cop. Luke is a fox shifter who owns a diner, and Silas is a human cop working with vampire detective Drew from book one. While it was good to see Drew and his boyfriend Jason again, the focus is on Silas and Luke and the kind of unique trouble they manage to get themselves involved in. With an intriguing mystery and some scorching interpersonal activities, this story certainly held my attention.
Luke runs a chicken shack – which is truly hilarious because he is a fox shifter. He has fun with the idea himself, but the fact that he has a lot of regular customers speaks for itself. Luke’s personal life is practically nonexistent since he works hard and only does one-night stands. But then he meets Silas and things begin to change… Between the cute cop who awakens unknown feelings in him and Luke’s criminal family, the tension remains high.
Silas is a cop and wants to make detective as soon as possible. His family, especially his mother, may be against his career choice, but Silas is determined to live his dream. And that includes treating shifters and other supernaturals with respect – not something his family would agree with either. His biggest problem is finding someone he can have a relationship with – as he is not one for one-night encounters. Once he gets to know Luke he begins to reconsider – the fox shifter is that attractive. But then Luke is attacked, Silas is involved before he knows it, and both of them need to keep their wits about them if they want to survive Luke’s cousins’ evil machinations.
If you like action-packed stories about cops and the men they fall for, if personal and interpersonal discoveries and entanglements are your thing, and if you’re looking for a very entertaining read with a supernatural touch, then you will probably like this novella.
