Book Review

Absolutely adorable! All the stories in this series so far have been entertaining and cute, what with all the shenanigans the dragon kits got into as they were growing up, but now that they are college-age and discovering their mates, I am becoming even more of a fan. But ‘Dragon Lesson’ offers not only Lumie finding his mate amid lots of adventure, it also finally gave me an explanation of Lumie’s somewhat mysterious powers. Add the heartbreaking story of Goldie and his liberation from his past, and I was oohing and awwing the whole time.

Lumie is a fire dragon, but he has several other kinds of magic as well, and nobody can explain it. He has used his powers to get into trouble most of his life, and cannot imagine being an adult now that he is nineteen. And the thought of college makes him shiver – he never liked studying and getting his GED was hard enough!

Goldie was hatched in captivity and experimented upon by the evil scientists for the first five years of his life, while living in a cage. No wonder he is “broken”, has almost no self-confidence, and spends his time trying to figure out how he can stay away from people. They scare him. Lumie has always been different, but Goldie just can’t find the strength to open up. He loves learning new things, but is too afraid to consider going to college.

When a government agent offers a scholarship to any college of Lumie’s choice in exchange for a few assignments and a job after college, Lumie’s first thought is that he doesn’t want it, so can they offer it to his friend Alloy instead. But Goldie wants to go as well, except not without Lumie… After much back-and-forth they all get to go, Lumie and Goldie get mixed up in catching some evil guys, and are in way over their heads before they know it. Adventure mixes with romance, and I totally loved the result.

If you like the dragonshifters and their magic in this series, if you want to see two young men find each other while figuring out what they want to do with their lives, and if you’re looking for a read full of secrets, discoveries, action, and hope, then you will probably like this novella. As always at the end of one of the books in this series, I am already hoping there will be another one for me to read soon.
