Colin’s Do’s and Don’ts for a Happy New Year:
1. Do not develop a crush on your archnemesis, contractor Ryder Richards.
2. Do finish remodeling the heinous mega-mansion with him well before the first snowflakes fall on New Year’s Eve.
3. Do not notice that he's still the hottest man in Licking Thicket.
4. Do not let that gorgeous man provoke you.
5. Do not let his provocation distract you.
6. Do not let your distraction leave you stranded at the house with him during a blizzard.
7. Dear heavens, do not let him crack open the moonshine and light a fire.
8. Do not play drunken truth or dare with him.
9. And for gravy’s sake, do not let yourself fall in love.
10. But if you do… Don't be surprised if this is the happiest year ever.
What an unexpected joy to get a holiday novella featuring Colin and Ryder. I met both of these men in Parrish and Diesel’s story and getting to see their love story brought a smile to my face.
“Three years, Mr. Richards. Three years, and the only time you notice me is when I piss you off! Now, you’re pushing me against the cabinet and… and… and… taking your own sweet time screwing.” My eyes widened. Had I actually just said that? The look on Ryder’s face suggested I had. “I mean… screwing as in drilling.” Oh, dang it. “I mean, drilling as in using your power tool. I mean…” I pushed my lips together, forcing myself to shut up, and whimpered just slightly.” ~ Colin
For three years Colin, an interior designer, and Ryder, a general contractor, have slowly been falling in love with each other, even going so far as to take on jobs they might not normally accept, just so they can spend time together. Their outward appearances would indicate they’ve got nothing in common: Colin was raised by his grandparents, doesn’t swear, dresses conservatively, and comes across as a bit uptight whereas Ryder was the bad boy growing up, belongs to the local MC, has long hair and tattoos. But looks can be deceiving and these two men share so many of the same goals, work ethics, and desire for a family of their own.
Sigh. I adored this short and, as usual, my greedy nature wanted more, but the epilogue was really fabulous and filled in almost all of my wants for this story. Thank you, Lucy and May, what a great holiday tale!
