Book Blurb

Two years after his longtime mate passed away, Senior Constable Isa Higgs lives for his work solving crimes and protecting the citizens of Sansbury Province—and he won’t admit to anyone that he’s lonely. His three beta sons barely speak to him, he has no real friends to speak of, and his home feels too empty most nights. When he helps free five omega prisoners from a life of torture and abuse, Isa is unexpectedly drawn to one in particular—an omega six months pregnant with another alpha’s child.

Liam Haley lost everything in one single tragedy—his family, his freedom, and his ability to make choices. And then he’s whisked out of hell by an alpha constable twice his age who should terrify Liam, but instead, the man makes him feel safe. Protected. Wanted. But Liam is carrying a child he isn’t sure he wants to keep, and the last thing he needs is to get attached to a widowed alpha who can’t possibly want him back…right?

With Liam pregnant and Isa previously mated, neither man is sure exactly what they’re feeling—only the more time they spend together, the closer they become. And Liam is still sorting through the trauma of his kidnapping, so friendship is their only recourse—until someone from Liam’s past shows up to claim what he believes is his. Now Isa has to choose between letting Liam go, or fighting like hell for the damaged, young omega he’s unexpectedly fallen in love with.

NOTE: This is a non-shifter Omegaverse story with alpha/omega/beta dynamics, heats, knotting, and mpreg. In this world, omegas are second-class citizens with few civil rights and almost no protections under the law. Trigger warnings for physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.

Book Review

Ever since I met Isa Higgs in book one, Tarek’s Senior Constable, I’ve been hoping for a book for him. He’s a giant alpha teddy bear, in my opinion, and he needs someone who helps make all his long hours working to keep people safe bearable. No pun intended. This is an amazing world the author has created but there is a deep lining of dark, evil present that all the couples from the previous books are working to bring to light and justice. I strongly recommend that these books be read in order and that the author’s warning is heeded.

Much like Jax from book three, Liam was escorted to a halfway house after losing his whole family in an accident, only to find himself being forcibly mated to an unknown alpha until Liam got pregnant, transferred to a secret location, forced to bulk up, and had his vocal chords operated on so his full voice strength is gone. Until the Constabulary rescue him Liam doesn’t know what he is there for, or even that there are more omegas housed in the same location. Liam is completely in the dark about the fighting ring he was sold into – a ring that battles pregnant omegas against one another for sport and the loser of the fight is auctioned off for a night to be used in whatever manner the winning bidder sees fit.

Isa and Liam both feel the mating bond when they meet but neither wants to mention it to the other, mostly for fear that the other doesn’t feel it. Isa, as a mated alpha even though his mate died, is allowed to get guardianship of Liam and he brings him home to live in safety while he awaits his baby’s birth. Isa has three sons, two who live in an apartment near the university, and the youngest who lives at home. Isa didn’t handle his omegin’s death very well and it has caused distance between him and his sons that Isa is working hard to overcome. Living at Isa’s also lets Liam into the “group”, so to speak, of Tarek, Braun, Kell, Ronin, Jax, Karter, Dex, and Serge - the best group of men to have as friends and family.

“Liam would rather die than be parted from his alpha, but he would so much rather live for his alpha and their son. He pressed his lips to Isa’s and silently vowed to fight for what they had. As long as Liam had breath in his body, he’d fight for the life he wanted. The life he deserved. The life they both deserved, with each other. As mates.”

This was absolutely everything I had hoped Isa’s story would be. The love between Liam and Isa was so gentle and sweet that I had tears in my eyes more than once. The drama was excellently done with a truly believable sociopath and abuser. There were some sad moments but they made the whole story even more powerful. Now I have Jaysan’s story to read, but I think I’ll take a little break so I have a fresh perspective again when I jump back into this world I so love!
