Book Blurb

Australian country boy Dean West grew up on a farm and as a result, he’s never had a Valentine. He hates secluded land and craves the freedom he has dreamed of - surfing and living on the coast - ever since his first visit at age eleven on one of his parent’s rare getaway holidays.

When his parents decide to holiday on the North Coast again, Dean decides to make the most of it by making some of his dreams, albeit temporarily, come true. First, he takes a dawn run along the beach and that’s where he meets Riley, a pro surfer who he feels instantly drawn to.

Sharing their mutual love of surfing, Dean and Riley begin to explore the attraction between them, but what will happen when the trip is cut short and Dean has to go home early? Will he spend another Valentine’s Day alone and unhappy, or will another one of his dreams come true?

Book Review

It’s not always easy to follow your dreams, and Dean, of ‘Love Come True’, has had a particularly bad time of it. He grew up on a farm, but wants to live near the ocean. He’s been on a few visits to the sea during vacations, but has had to return to the country every time. And then there’s the fact that he is gay, yet he has not found the courage to come out. But when he meets Riley just before Valentine’s Day during the latest family visit to the Australian North Coast, everything changes.

Dean is ready to make some changes in his life. He is eighteen now, and he is surer than ever that he wants to be a surfer. Riley is just the right guy to teach him, and they end up exploring more than the right wetsuit to wear, surfboard to rent, and optimal technique to use for riding the waves. The attraction between them is undeniable, and even though they only spend one day together before Dean is supposed to join his parents for an emergency early return caused by his older sister, their determination to make a go of it is as deep as their youthful conviction that they can make their surfing and other dreams come true. Besides, it is Valentine’s Day and Dean wants to celebrate his first one ever with Riley.

If you like new adults ready to conquer the world, if you enjoy reading about sun, waves, and surfers, and if you’re looking for a light, entertaining read full of optimistic enthusiasm, then you might like this short story.
