Book Blurb

After Andrew’s boyfriend dumps him just before Christmas, he decides to take a job far, far away from city life. It’s a dishwashing job on a remote island off the coast of Georgia. Expecting sunshine, palm trees, and some quality alone time, Andrew is surprised to find alligators, mosquitoes, rattlesnakes, and Garrett—a devilishly handsome naturalist. Andrew desperately tries to resist Garrett’s charm, because a twice-broken heart before Christmas is just not an option. Besides Andrew’s new friend Anna might already have a thing for Garrett.

But where do Garrett’s interests lie, and will Andrew find out before he’s surprised by a visit from his ex?

A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2018 Advent Calendar "Warmest Wishes."

Book Review

I can hardly believe that it’s already time for Dreamspinner Press’s annual thirty-one days of Advent Calendar holiday stories. It seems as if it was just yesterday when I was doing this for 2017. Of course, it’s not as if reading holiday short stories is any kind of hardship! I love the opportunity to read authors who might be new-to-me plus beloved favorites, not to mention the theme this year of ‘Warmest Wishes’ has me thinking of tropical beaches and rum cocktails. ‘Mosquitoes and Mistletoe’ certainly lives up to its title and I was happy to only be reading about swampy marshes and mosquitoes galore instead of living it.

Poor Andrew. A hopeless romantic whose boyfriend dumped him right before Christmas, leaving Andrew feeling sad and alone. He takes a job in the South looking forward to sun, sand, ocean, and fun. Unfortunately, he didn’t read the fine print and it’s Garrett who bursts his bubble by informing Andrew that he’s working at an eco-resort where there’s no TV and no commercial bug spray. Garrett is certainly nice to look at but Andrew wishes he hadn’t worn a tank top after the swarm of mosquitoes chases him to his lodgings.

It doesn’t take Andrew long to fall into his new routine and to make friends. He, Anna, and Garrett spend a lot of time together with Andrew trying to help Anna snag a date with Garrett. Of course, that all comes crashing down when Garrett asks Andrew when/how he knew he was gay which leads to Garrett’s first kiss with a man and Andrew wondering how he ended up in another potential heartbreak.

A very sweet holiday romance with just the right mix of drama, wonderful secondary characters, and a lovely setting.
