Book Blurb

The elf queen who infected the werewolf population isn’t going away—and neither are the two heartbeats that will soon be the children in Cory’s arms.

Cory’s used to throwing herself physically into the fray, but as their enemy gets closer and more dangerous, she’s forced to choose between her safety and the people sworn to protect her. Her guardians are tired of worrying about Cory and her unborn children, and Cory is getting plain tired.

The preternatural world isn’t her only worry—basic human birthing rituals are going to be a pain in the ass for a woman whose children will be sidhe. Cory’s mother is still fuzzy on the concept of a polyamorous multispecies marriage and sets her up with an OBGYN obsessed with the inhuman silhouettes of her babies.

Cory doesn’t want her children born in the middle of a turf war, but the people she and Green have nurtured and fought for aren’t about to let her face this enemy alone. This battle is for queen and home, and the babies quickening in Cory’s body are a symbol of hope. Cory’s going to have to give up the idea of being a weapon and embrace the idea of being a mother, or she’ll let down those depending on her most.

Book Review

I know I said at the end of 'Quickening, Vol. 1' that I couldn't wait until volume two released, but now that it has, I'm sad to be reading what will be the finale of this wondrous series. My heart is in my throat because, even though I know the author won't deliberately let something bad happen, I'm terrified that a beloved character is going to die, or destruction will decimate Green's Hill. I know I'm being silly but I can't help it. After all of these years, these characters and the Hill have become my family and my home.

Nimuetia is the elf gone mad who has created all these blood bonded werewolves, sucking their power and discarding them when they're all used up, just to attack Green's Hill and its inhabitants. Actually, what she wants is Green's power and his people. She stupidly assumes that Cory is just his human weapon, not knowing, or understanding, that she's a sorceress, the little Goddess, and wife to Green, Bracken, and Nicky. Nimuetia is a perversion of everything the elves hold dear, and it's time to end this war.

As all of the books in this series have shown, even though there is always a supernatural threat, the bottom line is always about the people. I have watched Cory go through so much, and she has grown into herself in a way I couldn't have imagined when I started 'Vulnerable'. She amazes me with her strength, her vulnerability, her power, and her ability to go from zero to furious in one point five seconds. More than anything, though, I loved experiencing her pregnancy through her eyes, the eyes of her husbands, and all the folk on the Hill.

There is so very much I could say about the story, the plot, the ending, etc., but I truly believe this series, and this book, need to be experienced. I can say that the author took me on an adventure beyond belief and I truly hope this isn't the end. However, if it is, I know I will revisit Green's Hill, my family and friends, many, many, many times over the coming years. For these people are firmly lodged within me and are never leaving my heart.
