7 days. 4 men. 1 very complicated vacation.
When Cameron takes his submissive boyfriend Noah to a gay men's leather convention in San Francisco, Cam expects to spend the week exploring their relationship and experimenting with non-monogamy. What he doesn't expect is to run into his own former dom, Lou, in an embarrassingly public reunion.
First edition published by Torquere Press in April 2015.
Some relationships, especially when ex-lovers get back into the picture, can be complicated. Imagine four men, two Doms and two subs, meeting up unexpectedly at a leather convention. Add the fact that one for the Doms used to be the other’s submissive and has never quite gotten over how they parted ways. Stir in a bit of that Dom’s sub wanting way more than the poor beleaguered Dom is willing to give. Shake well and wait for the outcome. It could go various different ways and with such a potentially explosive mixture, it could have gone in any direction. And just like in real life, sometimes, the way things ended was less than clear (at least to me).
Okay, so Cameron is a Dom now but he used to be Lou’s sub. As the story progresses it becomes clear the two men have unfinished business, and Lou introducing Cameron to a room full of convention-goers does absolutely nothing to resolve those issues. Over the next week the hotel they are staying at becomes a pressure cooker for Cameron, and while the ending is sort of satisfactory for him (for now), I don’t think the problem will go away.
Noah, Cameron’s sub of two years, has his own problems. He wants to go into deeper submission, craves it, in fact, but no matter how much he pushes, Cameron will not go there with him. Not that it is a sub’s role to push that hard, but that is yet another can of worms. Noah believes all will be solved if the four of them play together, but while that scene is very hot, I did not get the impression Noah’s problem was truly dealt with. On the surface, maybe, but there seems to be a lot more to it than gets addressed openly.
To summarize, this segment of these four men’s lives may have been concluded, but I can just feel much more bubbling under the surface. If you like stories that mimic real life in the sense they do not always end with all the lose ends solved, if you enjoy reading about kinky play between four very kinky men, and if you’re looking for a read that has as much heat as it contains potential for further exploration (in thought or in a sequel), then you might like this short story.
