Book Blurb

When Todd Hunter went to university he left behind his boyfriend, Deacon Jones. Todd knows Deacon is the one he wants to spend the rest of his life with, but for some reason Deacon has stopped returning his calls and is ignoring all his letters.

Now Todd is home for the holidays, and he wants to spend them with Deacon. It might not be so easy though. Neither Todd’s family nor Deacon’s are happy about their relationship, and while Todd knows if they stand together they can make it work, convincing Deacon may be the greatest challenge of all.

Book Review

Loving someone "from the other side of the tracks" has always been difficult, and this story, a modern version of socially unacceptable love, and not just because the two lovers are gay, is just one of many examples.

Todd comes from a well-off middle class family and much is expected from him. He wants to go into politics and is now at university, but comes home for Christmas. He has left the love of his life, Deacon, behind and is very upset that he hasn’t even heard from him since September. Despite everyone in his "circle" telling him he shouldn’t tie himself down and to leave well enough alone, he is determined to find out what happened. He has no intention of ending the relationship which in his mind, is still very much "on".

Deacon has been having a hard time. His drunken father has kicked him out, and even though his boss tries to get him to reconcile, Deacon is still too angry and doesn’t want to even talk to the man who wouldn’t even let him get his stuff before kicking him to the curb. Deacon believes Todd wants nothing to do with him now that he's at a fancy university. Deacon's lack of self-worth is crushing, and he actually believes he isn’t good enough for Todd. I wanted to shake him back into reality!

The process of them meeting up when Todd gets back, the discussions, the passion, as well as the final twist were wonderful. I loved the touching moments as well as the fact that Todd's father got his comeuppance – in a very civilized way and by his own wife! If you like Christmas stories with heart, if you enjoy lovers making up after life separated them, and if you're looking for a story that will make you smile because "what society thinks" does not win for once, then you will probably like this story as much as I did.
