When his wife died, Logan, of ‘The Christmas Deal’ by Kiera Andrews, is left with a thirteen-year-old stepson, Connor, with whom he has a hostile relationship. Logan is having a hard time finding a job and with Christmas coming it is even more important that he works. To make matters worse, he has just been evicted. Then an opportunity arises to have not only a job, but a place for him and his stepson to live. The only catch is, Logan has to pretend to be Seth’s, a coworker and friend of Logan’s sister, boyfriend.

Seth is in a bind. He is up for a promotion, one he seriously deserves, but his company has just been taken over by another organization. The new CEO puts a great deal of emphasis on families and even more on those with children. Since Seth is a gay man with neither a partner nor a child, he sees his chance for a promotion flying out of the window. Logan’s sister and Seth’s coworker is the kind of person who tries to help everyone. She knows Seth deserves the job and comes up with a scheme to help both Seth and her straight brother by suggesting that Seth and Logan act as if they are together. This way, the new boss will look more favorably upon Seth, especially since Logan also has a son.

Logan is uneasy about moving to Seth’s, but with it being temporary, just during the holidays, he accepts the offer. Also, since Logan is doing renovation for Seth, he is “earning his keep”, not accepting charity. Logan’s stepson is a bit bewildered by the arrangement but, to Logan’s surprise, agrees to go along with it. Logan and Seth settle into something like domestic bliss; even Connor enjoys being there and becomes friends with Seth. Logan appreciates Seth’s insight into their situation. Seth’s new boss is thrilled with his new status and before long, their deception has snowballed to the point that Logan and Seth have to pretend to be engaged. Not only that, Seth’s new boss has invited herself to their house for dinner.

This is a familiar trope, pretend-boyfriends to lovers, but Kiera has put her own special twist to it. I loved how Logan accepted his newfound status with grace and enthusiasm. Seth is a sweetheart who deserves to be happy and loved. His patience with Logan, and especially Connor, made me fall in love with him even more. Thanks, Kiera, for a great holiday story.
