Even love can die without trust.

Angel’s brother, Isaac, has returned home, and the pair begins to make slow and awkward attempts back to each other. Learning how to be a brother to a grown man instead of a parental figure has Angel adjusting his behaviors and habits, and Isaac still remains a mystery. Was it merely entering adulthood that turned Isaac away from an overprotective Angel, or does Isaac carry a secret that will keep them from finally being a real family?

Daniel Macavoy, Angel’s new apprentice, is torn between his bond with Angel and the grasping machinations of his father. Dealing with a traumatized apprentice with dangerous holes in his magical education, saving Daniel may be harder than Angel first thought—especially since the biggest problem is not revenge, but guilt.

The one shining beacon in his life is Simeon, Elder vampire of Boston’s only Bloodclan. Four hundred years old and sexy as sin, Simeon is warrior and sage, patient and cunning. The strength Angel draws from Simeon’s devotion and the newborn mate-bond between them is steadfast and true…and the fount of death magic that animates the undead lord places Angel in the midst of a power struggle for control over himself, his lover, and his family.

Through it all, Angel is beleaguered by the unwanted attention of a troll-hybrid, the adventures of a dragon in the city, and a serial killer has decided to hunt the back alleys and midnight streets of Boston.

Book Review

Angel and Simeon are back in another exciting adventure filled with thrills, chills, evildoers, and a cast of fabulous secondary characters. ‘The Necromancer’s Dilemma’ is book two in the series and I found it to be just as enthralling as book one was. I am not going to repeat any of the information I revealed in my review of book one as these books truly must be read in order.

After the events of the previous book, Angel now has a dragon familiar, Eroch, and I’m completely in love with this little guy. Angel also has an apprentice, Daniel Macavoy, a young man who has spent the past ten years at the mercy of his insane father. Isaac, Angel’s little brother, is also back in the fold, at least at the moment, so Angel’s apartment is a bit crowded.

Simeon and Angel have started a soulmate bond, or as Simeon calls it in the language of his birth, a Leannán bond. In the history of vampires and practitioners, there is nothing recorded about a vampire and a necromancer bonding. It is unique beyond belief and brings with it a number of pros and cons. I am not going to reveal these as they are definitely spoilers, but suffice to say there is a learning curve for both men. Phew, right?

Angel continues to work with the police department on cases that are beyond their witches and wizards’ understanding and/or capabilities. This time they’ve got a serial killer removing hearts in a ritualistic manner, a troll hybrid coming after Milly and Angel, plus a fae lord of whom no one knows what he wants. As I stated above, excitement, thrills, suspense, and a continuing love story that is getting hotter and hotter. Oh, and a fabulous spectral hellhound Angel brought forth just for Simeon.

“A necromancer, a vampire, a hellhound and a dragon all walk into bar…”

Simeon made an inelegant noise, and squeezed his hand. “Are you nervous, my love?”

“Walking in the total darkness in some subterranean tunnels beneath the city? I’m fine,” Angel said with a smile, though his heart was beating a bit faster than normal.”

I absolutely loved this story. I’m finding the world to be utterly fascinating along with all of the characters. The writing is solid, the mystery intriguing, and the developing soul bond amazing. I can easily recommend this series.
