A pining prince needs: a second chance at love.

Prince Julius has only ever wanted one man. Raised alongside Prince Dante of Thedes, the two were inseparable until their unspoken mutual attraction ignited into a single passionate encounter. Convinced that it ruined their friendship, Julius retreated to his duties in Rosavia, where he daydreams of another chance to win Dante’s heart.

After four years apart, fate brings Prince Julius back to Thedes. He offers Dante a coveted invitation: return to the Rosavian palace for ten days, and be his plus-one to the Royal Ball of the century. Before long, they realize one night of passion wasn’t enough, and they can’t imagine losing each other again.

As the clock ticks down to the ball, Julius catches wind of Dante’s family meddling, and he must decide if their feelings are real or if they’ve both been played. Were they always meant for each other, or is it all an illusion that will melt away at midnight?

Welcome to the tiny European country of Rosavia, where roses ramble over alpine slopes and princes fall for the men of their dreams. Every Rosavia Royals book happens simultaneously, so books can be read on their own, or in any order... but keep an eye out for familiar faces around the palace!

Book Review

It is quite the intellectual exercise, creating a related series of gay romances (heavily constructed into the fairy tale milieu), each installment nicely confected by different women authors. Despite the enforced commonality of place, time and people, we experience their individualized personal creativity. As you read through the books, think of yourself as a judge at some county fair bake off. Tasty? Prosaic? Surprising?

Ms. Dawn employs some unique approaches in ‘Throne Together’. The heroes are, each unknown to the other, hopelessly in love, but pessimistic that their feelings will ever be returned. Nonetheless, early in the story, there is a single, initial sexual encounter between Julius (Jay) and Dante (Danny) – to which we are merely offered a hint. Then, throughout the story, as an unsourced recollection, that episode is presented in piecemeal details – successfully broadening our understanding of their relationship.

As a second speciality of Ms. Dawn, after the pilot’s denouement is finally presented (following several requisite moments of crises and doubts), assuring the expected HEA, she gives us an extensive and hotly detailed sexual encounter between the heroes, almost as a coda to this opus. Rather than being relieved that they are finally together, I found the end a little too long - almost tedious. [I was tempted to yell at my Kindle: “Enough! Fuck already, and let’s all go home!” Of course, for many of you, that may be a marvelous palate cleanser, served up to complete this literary repast – even if Ms. Dawn first insists on (allusion continued!) putting away the dishes and throwing out the trash.]

So far, the first three installments of the ‘Rosavia Royals’ series are consistent in character presentation. Each prince is a one-off, and yet seems to relate well to his brothers – who have been drawn by another author. Their “book conferences” must have been terrific. Ms. Dawn’s use of words is appropriately clever – apt for the genre. “Wait, was that panic? Was he getting a panic hard-on like he’d been called on to answer a question for the class…?” “It was a well-known fact that penises had a mind of their own, but not the smart one.”

‘Throne Together’, as the earlier installments, works nicely and provides entertaining, light reading, with a sufficient touch of sexual romance. Enjoy!
