Book Blurb

A little bundle of joy means big changes.

Hoss McMasters has a working ranch, a bull riding career, a nosy momma, and a best friend he’s been in love with since he can remember. He’s a busy, happy cowboy, living the good life.

Then one morning he discovers a baby on his doorstep.

Well, Hoss does what any reasonable man would do—he calls his momma and his buddy, Sheriff Pooter, and they head to the clinic to see if Doc knows of any suddenly not-so-pregnant girls.

In the meantime, Hoss and his best friend, Bradley, have their hands full trying to care for an infant, run a ranch, and deal with the sudden confession that Bradley doesn’t hate Hoss for coming out to him in high school. In fact, Bradley’s been trying to catch Hoss’s attention for damn near a decade.

Book Review

Hoss McMasters, of 'Two Cowboys and a Baby' by BA Tortuga, is reasonably content with his life until someone drops a baby off on his porch, one who has a striking resemblance to him. As a single gay man caring for a child is the last thing he ever though he'd have to deal with, but it strikes a protective cord in him stirring up feelings he'd never thought he'd ever have. He is suddenly obsessed with doing the best for this baby that he can and is unwilling to let her go to just anyone. What Hoss doesn't expect is how fond he becomes of the little one in such a short time.

Hoss calls the sheriff and asks him to launch an investigation into the abandonment and search for the baby's mother. He also takes the baby to the doctor for a checkup and help in finding either the mother or someone to adopt the baby. However, Hoss is not willing to let her go into the foster care system. Knowing he can't possibly care for a baby alone, Hoss enlists the help of his mother and his best friend, Bradley. Hoss and Bradley do a good job caring for the baby especially considering that they are both single with no children of their own. Hoss's mother helps out when needed as do the doctor and sheriff.

Hoss came out to Bradley in high school and Bradley's reaction wasn't as supportive as Hoss thought it would be so he's always thought Bradley was straight. The truth is, Bradley has been in love with Hoss for years but any hint Bradley tried to give Hoss went right over his head. With them both taking care of the baby, the bond between them begins to grow. They take the baby everywhere, even to the rodeo. The sheriff and the doctor continue to look for the mother to no avail. Neither can they find anyone to adopt her. The longer the baby is with them, the harder it is on them to think about letting her go. Finally, Bradley admits his love for Hoss and they act upon their attraction, taking it slow and easy. Their world falls apart when the doctor finally does a DNA test that shows startling results.

This is a story about two men and a baby thrown into an unexpected situation and it changes their lives as well as relationship to each other. Hoss has to be one of the nicest but clueless men alive to ignore ten years of “suggestions” by his friend Bradley and Bradley has to be one of the most stubborn. His lack of trust in Hoss is almost unforgivable especially how he claims to care for him and considering how long they have been friends. The novel has an interesting twist I didn't see coming that explains the entire situation and gives it a reasonable resolution. It's written in “Texas cowboy slang” with amusing sayings that add color to the dialogue. If you would like to read a nice story about cowboys, rodeos, babies, and families, then you may enjoy this book. Thanks, BA, for the entertaining read.
