Vinny is just your typical all-around average guy, well, except for the leather and the floggers, oh and maybe that little room at the back of his house where he likes to take a guy and strap his ass before he before he nails him. Well, maybe Vinny isn’t so average. At least, that’s what Angel thinks. You see, Angel got himself into a bit of trouble by scheduling a fetish shoot with The Sounding Board when he’s never even been tied up.

Who better to show him the ropes than professional fetish model, Vinny D’Forino? The answer will bring him to his knees.

Book Review

“Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck.” ~Dalai Lama

Vinny is hurting. His ex, whom he loved deeply, left him because Vinny couldn't be what he wanted him to be, and Vinny is devastated. He swears off love and decides that he will never again get that strongly attached to anyone. He decides the best thing to do is find someone who enjoys being dominated, who embraces pain, and does not want an emotional entanglement, but one-night stands are getting old. He needs someone more permanent. Vinny doesn't realize that what he thought he wants and what he needs are completely different and it takes an angel to show him.

When Vinny gets a call from Carter, a friend in the industry, about a boy who wants to do a fetish scene but has no experience in this area, he balks. He's not interested in playing nurse maid to some newbie who is too young to know what he's doing. Vinny tries to get out of it, but the more he thinks about someone else taking on that boy, the more anxious he gets. Vinny doesn't want to do this, but he's also afraid that anyone else will scare him to death, so he resigns himself to the task. When Carter sends Vinny a picture of the boy, Angel (Jason), Vinny is taken aback. Angel is not at all what Vinny expects. Although he can see why the boy was recruited, his protective nature kicks in and he's even more determined to keep him safe. When Vinny actually meets Angel, he has an immediate visceral reaction to the boy which is surprisingly possessive as well as sexual. As they begin the journey to teach Angel the ropes, literally, Vinny's attraction grows stronger. He has to keep reminding himself that Angel is not the kind of partner he's looking for, yet not quite believing it.

Jason is a contradiction. He's a young college student, living in his grandmother's basement, doing all the things for her that a good grandson does. Jason is mostly in the closet, but he likes kink and wants to indulge in it more deeply. When he is recruited, he is anxious to participate; the idea of becoming a famous porn star, like his idol, Vinny, is a turn-on, but Jason doesn't really know what is involved in choosing that path. When he learns that Vinny is to be his mentor, he can't believe his luck! He anxiously agrees to be mentored by Vinny and thinks he's prepared for what's to come, but it turns out that he's not. When Jason misunderstands Vinny's concern for lack of confidence, he storms out and is more determined than ever to do the shoot. It's like watching a train wreck about to happen and not being able to stop it. All Vinny can do is pick up the pieces afterwards.

Vinny and Jason were both caught up in an internal struggle between what they thought they   wanted and what was best for them. Their very erotic encounters were a mix of emotional and sexual interaction, which went beyond what I normally think of BDSM. Before this story, I hadn't considered the absolute trust it takes to form a bond between a Dom and a sub; or the idea that among all the physicality there can also be tenderness which JP Barnaby has exemplified in this story. I recommend this to readers who enjoy BDSM and to others who may want to learn more about it. Thanks, JP, for opening my eyes to this side of the lifestyle and providing me with a better understanding of the subject.
