Dark witches here, bloody witches there, evil witches everywhere.
At home, my life is amazing, thanks to my boyfriend, Cosmo Ono-Nai, and his wonderful family that I’ve become a part of. I’m happier than I’ve ever been in my life.
But work is a different story.
All anyone’s talking about is the Red Cloth this, the Red Cloth that. I can’t escape them, and all I really want is to find someplace the witches can’t reach, take my family—my pride—there, and hide them away from the world.
But I can’t. I’ll do everything in my power to protect them, and everyone else, from the building threat. There’s this dread building in my chest about what’s to come, and I have a feeling the Red Cloth is planning something big. I only wish I knew what so I could keep Cos, Jude, and the rest of our family safe.
I didn’t think the excitement, suspense, and thrills could possibly continue its upward trajectory, but I underestimated Michele Notaro. ‘A Purpose That Restores Us’ has more battles, but more found family, and even an awesome human who seems to truly care about magi and shifters.
TRD and NHSO are finally listening about the threat of the Red Cloth, the witches’ terrorist group, and because they can’t afford the loss of any more magi, they are now making TRD teams respond in pairs to breaches. Magi reproduction has suffered significantly ever since World War Three and particularly since the NHSO began its forced breeding system. Now with all the loss of magi lives, the NHSO has to do what it can to protect the lives of the magi they have left. Gray team pairs up with McKenna team and even though their human captain, McKenna, is a bastard, their shifters and their mage, Ash, work well with Ono-Nai, Jude, and Mads. Ash even begins to become a friend and starts to hang out with the whole pride.
In his new role as a councillor on SWC, Cosmo allies himself with like-minded colleagues and puts together a presentation with Jude’s help asking the SWC to include magi in their fight for equal rights. It was wonderful watching Cos and Jude work together. Not that they don’t get along or aren’t friends/family, but Jude has a dyad bond with Madeo and both men have had to adjust some of their thinking and feeling. Mads is so lucky to have both of these incredible people who love him.
“We had a voice in a council that was willing to help us fight for equal rights.
And that… well, that was more than I’d expected to see in my lifetime.
Now that we had that voice, maybe I’d get to see some true change, too…
Jude, who hardly ever cried, who usually only saved those tears for moments when I was injured or we were being punished, was crying. Joyous tears, yes, but he was crying. Cos scented him while I hugged him as tight as I could and tried to keep my own tears at bay.
We had a voice. We. Had. A. Voice.”
The Red Cloth intensify their efforts and when a St. Louis TRD team does a raid on a witch’s residence they find references to Madeo and Jude, along with their old apartment address plus the pride house address. Not to mention blueprints for HQ. It’s starting to become very evident, at least with Gray team, that they have a mole in TRD feeding information to the Red Cloth. I was NOT surprised by who it turned out to be, although I wasn’t sure if I could forgive the author for the couple of scares she gave me throughout this story, but all is well that ends well.
This installment brings new meaning to the word ‘wow’ and I think there were more than a few moments where I was holding my breath through scenes. The battles are fantastic plus the author threw a new monster from the Tarago realm in the team’s path. The love story continues to be sweet and wonderful. There are some emotional scares, but also a HILARIOUS scene between Mads and Jude near the end that had me crying with laughter. All in all, I continue to be utterly transfixed by this series and can highly recommend it.
