He’s falling for a fae prince—just as magic tears the world apart.

Zack’s life was never normal—first a Marine medic in a secret base, now the human liaison and assistant to a sidhe prince. He’s also pretty sure he’s falling in love with his boss. All good until reality itself begins to crack.

Strange sightings, magical explosions, monstrous attacks, and rampant lycanthropy rip through the veil between worlds. With Finn ill, Diego mentally compromised, and magic spiraling, Zack and Lugh must navigate fae chaos, rogue wizards, and shifting realities—or risk losing everything.

Book Review

This third book in the ‘Endangered Fae’ series adds more depth, new characters, and an unexpected turn in the series arc to what has already become one of my favorite worlds. Finn, the pooka, and his partner Diego, a human writer turned powerful sorcerer, continue to play a central role, but Zack, a former Marine, and Lugh, the sidhe prince who is now the fae’s ambassador to Earth, are the focus of this breathtaking adventure. Newly rediscovered sidhe and modern-day humans are in contact after centuries of being closed off from each other, and this situation has unexpected, dangerous consequences. The role of magic in the world, interconnections between Earth and the Otherworld, and more twists and turns than should be legal in one novel kept me on the edge of my seat yet again.

Zack is one of the many interesting characters from previous books – mainly because he has so many layers. He is a warrior, a former marine, but also a medic and healer. He has worked in a secret government installation, and now he is an aide to Lugh, the sidhe prince and the fae’s top diplomat on Earth. He and Lugh have been friends for a long time and while Zack has always wanted more, he doesn’t think it would be fair to ask Lugh to be monogamous or to make a lasting commitment. Zack believes that what he needs in a relationship cannot possibly be what the prince can give – not that they have ever discussed it.

Lugh has fallen for Zack without even realizing it. Once he does, he has no idea what to do. Honor tells him to tread carefully and to do nothing that might ask too much from Zack. His feelings are close to overflowing on a daily basis, but he thinks Zack’s reticence means the marine is not interested. Lugh may be a diplomat, but he is also a royal pain when he tries to be too nice and had me wanting to smack him upside the head several times. But then he “gets it” and things are still extremely complicated.

Amidst all the back-and-forth between Zach and Lugh, Zack has to deal with the attack of a monster that causes a permanent change in his life. Nobody is even sure he can survive his injuries, never mind leading a seminormal life once he does. But, as bad as this is, it quickly becomes the least of Zack’s problems when dark magic rears its ugly head, human children suddenly have magical abilities, and the level of general chaos is such that some of the ancient dragons come out of hiding. Not a good sign!

If you like super-intense stories where you won’t know what will hit you next, if you think that a former marine and a sidhe prince can learn to get along when they follow their hearts, and if you’re looking for a suspenseful read with plenty of mystery, action, despair, hope, and an ending that promises more books to come in this fantastic series, then you will probably like this  novel as much as I do. I didn’t think this was possible, but it’s even better than the first two!
