Book Review

A lot of Americans never leave their own country. Heck, some of them never leave their state or their home town. Personally, I find that concept disturbingly frightening, but it is reality for some. Hence, I tried to be empathetic for Jamie, all alone in the Czech Republic, not speaking the language and trying to locate his missing younger brother. Who, by the way, the police tell Jamie is dead but they lost the body. What?! This is the entertaining plot of Rob Colton's 'An American Lamb in Europe'.

Jamie's little brother, Rudy, may look a lot like Jamie, but they are polar opposites in personality, values, and moral code. Jamie has bailed Rudy out more times than he can count, loaned him money, and even overlooked it when Rudy stole from him. When Jamie gets a letter from Rudy, postmarked in the Czech Republic (Jamie didn't even know his brother had left the States), saying he was sorry and he loved Jamie, well family is family, no matter what. When the police tells Jamie that Rudy is dead but they'd lost his body and he had probably been accidentally cremated, Jamie quits his job, sells most of his belongings, and heads to the address listed on Rudy's letter.

His first night there, Jamie gets attacked by three young men and a mysterious stranger saves him and then tells him to go home. The next night Jamie is assaulted by a man and a woman, and out of the shadows comes his rescuer, Tomas, again. Tomas says he had seen Rudy in the area, so Jamie begs him to ask around and then come let Jamie know if he finds anything. Unfortunately, Jamie has no idea what he's asking and when Tomas tells him the truth - about vampires and that Rudy was a blood donor, a lamb - Jamie can't believe it until Tomas shows him. Working with Tomas to try to find which coven Rudy was abducted to, means time spent with Tomas, and neither of them can keep their hands off the other. However, poking their noses into this abduction that involves one of the three main covens puts a target on Jamie's back.

This was a very sexy vampire romance. I liked both Jamie and Tomas and my only complaint could be that I wished it was a little longer. I know, I know, I'm always saying the books I read are long and I need some shorter ones, and then I get a shorter one and what do I do? Complain that it wasn't long enough. I'm a woman, deal with it. Anyway, I really enjoyed this book and wouldn't mind seeing another set in this world. Thank you, Rob, for a job well done!
