Kobbi Aackers was excited to have a traditional family Christmas with his younger sister Franzi, a famous rock star. But instead of the peaceful holiday he had planned, she’s turning it into a televised musical extravaganza, in a desperate bid for publicity.
Kobbi can adapt, especially since the show’s host Wytt Kanard is easy on the eyes and easy to work with, even if he doesn’t believe in Christmas at all. Wytt is alternatively amused and horrified at the simplicity that is Kobbi’s life and the enthusiasm he has for the holiday, all while taking care of his houseful of unexpected guests.
Maybe Kobbi can convince the cynical Wytt that Christmas isn’t an event to be managed, but something special to be shared. Maybe he can muster the courage to confess his attraction and offer Wytt a surprise present.
A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2016 Advent Calendar "Bah Humbug."
Kobbi Aakers, of 'And To All A Good Night' by Felicitas Ivey, should have been more suspicious when his wild little rock star sister, Franzi, suggests that they have Christmas at home for a change. But when not only his sister but her entire entourage invade his house, his dreams of having a cozy family Christmas with his sister goes up in smoke. Instead their entire time is going to be televised in hopes of changing Franzi's image, which at the moment is not so great, showing that she can be the loving little sister spending a traditional Christmas with her brother.
Fortunately Kobbi is not easily disconcerted and quickly adjusts, going with the flow, making the necessary changes in sleeping arrangements and increasing the amount of food to serve, not just for one other person, but four. Wytt, the show host, is handsome but uptight; yet Kobbi is attracted to him. Wytt is not impressed by the quaint decorations and customs surrounding them in Kobbi's homestead. He even asks Kobbi why the house so decked out if he didn't know they were coming to film the holiday. Realizing what a cynic Wytt is but trying not to judge, Kobbi becomes determined to get Wytt and the others to relax, loosen up, and enjoy being immersed in the spirit of an old-fashioned Christmas.
Kobbi's attempts to instill the holiday spirit in the cynical Wytt is amusing, touching, and inspiring all at the same time. I enjoyed hearing about his family's customs and appreciated the fact that even though he and his sister are very different, they still love each other intensely. Thanks, Felicitas, for making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
