World War Two brought them together…but a family's threat to take away Tinder and Jason's son, Christopher, could tear them apart.

Avenging Heart, follows Jason and Tinder's adventures in Honolulu in 1947.

The war is over, but the islands are slow to heal from the devastating ravages of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Jason and Tinder are part of the rebuilding effort. Tinder's stepmother is spearheading a growing movement of housewives who are keen to help their husbands bring home the bacon—it's a time of remembrance, hard work, fancy clothing, Tupperware and other intriguing new inventions.

Tinder and Jason, the proud parents of their five-year old son, Christopher, are shattered when his birth mother's family challenges their legal adoption of the child. His mother, Melody, a former working prostitute on Hotel Street, had been murdered, her sins long buried…until now.

The surprising discovery of her killer and the couple's desire, both for vengeance and to maintain the loving home Christopher has always known, make for nonstop twists and turns of Tinder's Avenging Heart.

Book Review

This final volume is both the best in the series – because Tinder and Jason finally get their happy-ever-after – and the worst/saddest – because it is the last book. I have enjoyed the journey these two men took from the very first time they met back in 1941, feel as if I have stayed with them through all their trials, and am really sad to see them go. Their story has given me new insight into what it must have been like to live in Hawaii around the World War Two era – and I am very grateful that A.J.’s meticulous research for allowed me such an accurate peek into their time and lives.

Tinder and Jason have settled down with Christopher, the son they have legally adopted. He makes their little family complete, and when this peace is interrupted by the parents of his (murdered) mother, both Tinder and Jason are devastated. Much of the story focuses on their efforts to keep him with them – and the revelations about Christopher’s grandparents as well as his father kept me in suspense until the very end.

Jason, as the ‘doer’ of the two, is kept busy making sure the threat of Christopher being taken from them is dealt with. I loved the way he approaches things – mobilizing every piece of support he can get, not even shying back from recruiting some of the people from his “murky” past. The need to keep Christopher safe overrides everything, and the twists and turns of this effort were amazing, took my breath away, and some of them even made me laugh.

If you’re into finding out what it was like living in the past, if you’re a fan of Hawaii, and if you’ve been following Tinder and Jason’s story, this final book in the series is a must-read. It not only gives an accurate picture of the post-war rebuilding efforts in Honolulu (and Hawaii as a whole), but with characters who are so life-like they make you think they are people you have met, this is a treat for anyone. If you are interested, I do recommend starting with the first book – this series is simply wonderful and best read in sequence for the full effect.
