Book Blurb

A past that haunts them. A love that refuses to die.

Kieran Addison thought leaving home was the only way to escape the heartache of falling for the one man he couldn’t have—his brother’s boyfriend, Jordan Salter. Distance seemed like the safest choice, but grief followed him across the ocean.

Now, years later, Kieran returns home to a family in crisis—his father is gravely ill, the family business is on the brink of collapse, and Jordan… Jordan is still there, broken and burdened, yet just as captivating as ever.

Forced to work together to save the company, Kieran and Jordan’s buried feelings reignite—anger, longing, and undeniable attraction. But unresolved pasts and unspoken truths stand between them. Kieran knows that walking away once nearly destroyed him. This time, he's determined to stay—and to fight for the man he's always loved.

Can they move beyond heartbreak and regrets to build something real, or will the past drag them down before they get their second chance?

Book Review

Back Home is a novel which contains quite a bit of drama. There are so many dynamics and layers to this story, hidden within the main romance, I wanted to go back and read it all a second time to make sure I hadn't missed anything.

Jordan is a young man who has made his home with the family of his deceased partner, Brad. Jordan works for the family business, doing detailed construction work for major and specialist refurbishments for the company Brad would have one day inherited had he not passed away. Jordan struggles daily with the guilt, feeling both at fault and beholden to Brad's family for their loss. He also feels resentment towards Brad's younger brother, Kieran, for deserting the family at a time when Jordan feels they needed him most.

Kieran had to leave, or he would have gone insane. Struggling with the desire he feels for his brother's partner since the day Kieran worked out he was gay, Kieran cannot stay around Jordan for any length of time. When his wish comes true, and Brad is no longer in the picture, Kieran struggles with the guilt and longing that tear him into separate directions. When Jordan is injured, Kieran puts his life on hold and returns home.

Past secrets are revealed, family issues are dealt with and the truth of not only Kieran's past actions, but also both men's emotions, are uncovered. Will it be enough for these two men to find it within themselves to build something out of what has been left behind?

Back Home is a really touching story that showed me the power of communication. When I started reading this story, I started having an idea about what I thought the story is about and by the end, it was a completely different picture. I love how RJ has taken on such a complex subject matter and turned it on its ear, smoothly incorporating family opinions and history to build tension and drama. Written in a contemporary style, if you enjoy drama, or family style stories, this is for you.
