Book Blurb

Believing in love and in luck is something Gavin swore he’d never do again -- until he meets Ford.

After being left at the altar by his former fiancé, he’s a firm disbeliever in good fortune and love. Though there’s an immediate attraction between himself and Ford, they’re just too different to make a relationship work. The sex is explosive and despite himself Gavin even grows to like Ford’s quirky sense of humor and skewed view of life. Isn’t that good enough?

Not for Ford. A happy-go-lucky diviner of fortunes and omens, he’s sure from what he’s seen that Gavin is the love of his life and the man he’ll marry. He makes it his mission to overcome Gavin’s doubts and fears and teach him how to love again. Never giving up in his enthusiastic pursuit of the once-burned twice-shy secretary, he brings Gavin back to life and helps restore him to the man he used to be.

Ford makes Gavin want to believe in love again. But when Ford begins to lose his faith, it’s up to Gavin to save the magic they have between them and blaze the trail toward their happily ever after.

Book Review

“That's the thing, though. Love is the great equalizer. It doesn't matter who we are or how tall we stand. It brings us together like sea to shore. It brings us home.” - Gavin

This is one of the quirkier love stories I have read. It took me a good few chapters to get into the story and characters, but it was worth it. Gavin and Ford are each somewhat stubborn, believe their view of the world is correct, and both have issues with falling in love and commitment, though for different reasons. Both are very good-looking and each other’s type to a T. They end up using sex as a “common language” they both understand, so there is a lot of it as they get to know each other better.

Gavin works in a library with a horrible coworker who makes his life difficult. Gavin has been deeply disappointed by his previous lover, so he is extremely hesitant to fall in love again, even though he is attracted to Ford from the moment they meet. Gavin also has very low self-confidence and, for the longest time, cannot get himself to believe that Ford is serious.

Ford is impulsive, believes in “signs”, and is determined to make Gavin marry him. He ends up being way too serious too soon and almost drives Gavin away. I had to laugh at his antics more than once, he is just so over the top. His best friend Kayla tries to give some perspective, but she has a hard time slowing Ford down.

But disaster strikes when Ford starts seeing “bad omens” and decides maybe he was wrong. Luckily Gavin disagrees and, after a last-minute attempt by his despicable ex, takes things into his own hands. I greatly enjoyed that part of the story.

If you like big, goofy men pursuing cute nerds, if signs and omens and their effect on people’s lives are your thing, and if you’re looking for a read full of misunderstandings, then you might like this novel.
