World-renowned avian vet Sebastian Grant is so sure bird shifters aren’t real that even when an unruly cockatoo named Louis ends up naked in his arms, it’s difficult for him to admit he’s not imagining it. Louis might be everything Sebastian has been looking for in a partner—funny, confident, sexy, and genuine—but there’s one major problem: Louis is a captive in a gilded cage. With the help of Simon, his blue jay partner, Jay, and the expanding team of Undercover Peckers, Sebastian finds out he’s willing to do anything to make sure Louis is able to fly free and cock strut to his heart’s content.
I really needed something lighthearted and very funny tonight, so it's obvious why I turned to 'Cockstrut', book two in the 'Peckers' series. The first installment, Simon and Jay's story, was wonderful and I adored it. Now I had an opportunity to see, firsthand, how their new business, Undercover Peckers, was doing. I was curious if UC Peckers was getting a lot of business. You know, from other avian shifters. Get your mind out of the gutter. Oh, wait, leave it there, at least while you read this book.
Louis would like nothing better than to stay in his cockatoo form all the time. But, once a month, he gets the itch, and he's got to sneak out of his cage, shift, and go boogie down at a club. Which is, interestingly enough, how he meets Simon and Jay. Louis is on his last night in Toronto before heading home to Chicago, when he gets roofied in a bar, and is saved by Simon and Jay. Jay had recognized Louis as a cockatoo, and it was fun for them to meet, since Louis had no idea that other shifters existed. Of course, he still had them take him home, so he could shift and get back into his cage, where he his happy and loved by wealthy Mrs. Green.
Sebastian is a world renowned avian vet, and his best friend is Simon. In fact, right before he heads to a house call to check on a very discombobulated cockatoo, Simon calls and informs Sebastian that he and Jay, will be in Chicago the following day, because they have something monumental to show him. Now, you have to understand that Simon and Sebastian have gone around and around, for years, debating the validity of avian shifters. But when Sebastian ends up with a gorgeous man in his lap, where before there was a cockatoo, and now he's got a human with a cock, too…well, he has to believe his eyes. What now?
I think I liked this book even more than the first one. I completely fell for Louis, and Sebastian is so straight laced "just the facts, ma'am", so watching him let loose with Louis was simply wonderful. Simon and Jay were back, and the pun wars were continuing. The ending was fantastic, and sets the stage for the next book, so I'm all about waiting for its release. Thank you, Jacques, for another fantastic and fun filled read.
