Brett Rocha retired from pro-hockey while still at the top of his game. Co-owner of a chain of restaurants and an inherited ice skating academy, he seems to have it all. Despite his fame, wealth, and good fortune, though, Brett suddenly finds himself painfully alone.
Ex-Olympic figure skating star Rylan Hennessy transitioned to professional ice dancing with Celia, Brett’s sister and Rylan’s lifelong partner on the ice. Then tragedy strikes, and Rylan’s world is turned upside down, too.
With the unexpected death of Celia, Brett and Rylan are drawn together through their mutual grief. Their bond strengthens when Brett introduces Rylan to BDSM, a lifestyle Rylan has never experienced before. While the mystery of Celia’s murder still needs to be solved, a second tragedy threatens to tear them apart.
Will their relationship survive, or will love be enough to see them through this life altering, harrowing change?
This novel is an emotional roller coaster that starts with a bang and doesn’t let up. The two men at its center face loss, a new relationship, mysterious threats to their life, and more upheaval than most people deal with in a whole lifetime. Brett, who used to play pro-hockey, is pretty settled in his career after retirement, but he is lonely. Rylan is a professional ice dancer who loses the partner he has skated with since they were six years old, and while he never imagined finding a partner to fall in love with, he can’t resist Brett. Neither man can live the life they want, unless they can figure out who wants one (or both) of them dead and how to deal with the aftermath of a horrific event that almost means the end to all of their plans.
Brett seems to have it all figured out is financially secure, and not ready to lose the last member of his family. The mysterious circumstances under which his sister dies have even the police scratching their heads, so Brett begins to investigate on his own. As soon as he meets Rylan again, a man he was only vaguely familiar with, the attraction between them sizzles and they turn out to be very compatible. Brett is a Dom and Ryland wants to try giving up control in the bedroom, and their experiments help both of them deal with the uncertainty of what happened to Brett’s sister.
Rylan loves skating and while he has gone from the far more demanding figure skating to ice dancing, doing his routines and performing are his life. His life is centered on the ice dancing troupe he travels the world with, and even though their boss is pretty demanding, Rylan doesn’t really mind. He is extremely attracted to Brett and couldn’t be happier when they start doing scenes that go from beginner level to some pretty intense stuff. But when tragedy strikes again and Rylan has to deal with rethinking his future, it almost destroys him.
If you like romances with lots of obstacles, if a suspenseful murder mystery with consequences is your thing, and if you’re looking for a read that is part thriller, part character study, and part drama, then you will probably like this novel.
