Simply because your world collides with a shooting star doesn’t mean that’s a sign, does it?
Cooper Davis has a nice life he’s quite fond of. He has a wonderful family, good friends, and a job he excels at. As a fixer with Torus Intercession, he’s entrusted with the well-being of the people relying on his guidance. He is protector, guardian, but most of all, as his boss always says, everyone needs to be better off once he leaves. The issue is, when he’s asked to watch over the actor Ashford Lennox, he’s not sure that leaving is what he wants to do.
Ashford Lennox is a movie star on the rise. He has everything he’s ever wanted, except someone to love and call his own. He’s learned over the years that home is not a place but sharing a life with one special person you can count on. When he meets the man tasked with keeping him safe during a wedding, it’s like a lightning bolt. Suddenly he can see his whole future unfolding.
Being on the same page is an epiphany for both, now if they could just make it to the happily ever after without getting shot…
A calm, logical, practical Torus Intercession agent and a high-profile actor play at being fake boyfriends in an assignment that goes off the rails practically from the beginning. ‘Get a Fix’ is the sixth installment in Mary Calmes’s ‘Torus Intercession’ series and technically it can be read as a standalone, but in my opinion the entire series is phenomenal and should be experienced.
Frustrated huff of air, and then he said, “If you’re willing, while we’re here, I would like to sleep with you.”
My stomach flipped. It was not every day a fantasy came true.
“I’m sure this sounds insane to you,” he went on, “but it’s harder than you think to find a man who’s gorgeous, charming, funny, confident, and able to hold my attention for more than a few fleeting moments. I bore terribly easily.”
“Is that right?”
“Absolutely.”
“But you’re not bored yet?”
His gaze locked with mine. “No. Not yet.”
“So you want the full fake-boyfriend package for the duration of your stay.”
“Yes, I do,” he replied, his voice cracking a bit.
So, here I am reading along, thinking (especially after the action-packed story that was Jared and Owen) that maybe Mary Calmes was writing me a lovely meet-cute, insta-lust/love that was possibly going to have a little angst involving one of Ash’s wacky family members, when WHAM out of the blue comes the possible threat from a maybe dead witness for the SEC, his missing wife, and the fact that Ash had lunch with this guy three hours before he died in a car accident. I’m sorry. What?
As I’ve come to expect from these stories, and this author, ‘Get a Fix’ is packed with humor, snark, sexy times, honesty, vulnerability, and the guys from Torus kicking a** and taking names. There are wonderful easter eggs to be found and an incredibly lovely happy ever after. The only thing I would have liked to see on-page was Ash actually meeting Cooper’s parents, sisters, and the entire extended family. I figure that might have been worth more than a few laughs! Now, PLEASE, can I have Nash’s story next? I need the rumpled, grumpy man with the squishy center to get his own HEA.
‘Get a Fix’ is a great story that will keep you engaged until the very end. I highly recommend it and all of the books in the series.
