Book Review

This second story in the ‘Gentle Giants’ series is even cuter than the first. Probably because Conrad has an adorable kindergarten-age daughter, Lizzie, who steals the show more than once. Since Conrad has a fear of large men due to a horrible almost-stepfather, he has a lot to overcome when he meets Forrest – a true giant of a man. That and a few other obstacles mean that both main characters have a few challenges to surpass before figuring out if and how they fit together. Truly adorable!

 

Conrad Langdon is a systems accountant, in charge of maintaining his clients’ accounting systems. It means he has lots of client contact, needs to deal with a team member who is less than talented and very lazy, and needs to remain on top of everything if he wants to get the promotion that he is up for. That and taking care of his sister’s daughter who now lives with him after her mother died is already a big load. Add to that his exploring things with Forrester, once Conrad overcomes his fear of the huge man, and Conrad has a lot to deal with.

 

Forrest Scoville reminded me of Arnold Schwarzenegger in Kindergarten Cop – but just from a physical point of view. Forrest is a large man who has a real talent for teaching, and kindergarten kids are his favorite. Forrest is dedicated and determined to do a good job even if some of the parents have a stupidly prejudicial opinion of him. The fact that he is gay adds just another layer of prejudice, so he has to be really careful about being seen with Conrad.

 

Both men have internal and external obstacles to defeat if they want to be in a relationship. Needing to decide first whether that is what they want doesn’t help. But once they do? They are very loving and Conrad’s fascinating passion for Lego adds a playful element to their developing relationship. When Conrad’s lazy colleague turns out to be a threat on multiple levels, it looks like the initial exploration may be cut short… but this is an Andrew Grey book, so never fear!

 

If you like men with unusual jobs and interesting hobbies, if a threat from an unhinged individual is your thing, and if you enjoy men learning about each other and exploring a loving relationship, then you will probably like this novel.
