What’s a straight guy to do when he falls for his new friend?
Paramedic Connor Devlin is a stressed-out tower of a man. Hoping knitting will help him unwind, he visits a local craft shop, where he’s overwhelmed by the yarn selection but more so by his feelings for shop owner Judah.
Judah Bissel is tired of falling for unavailable men. He can’t help his crush on Connor, though, or wanting to get closer to the big, gentle bear. And that just might spell trouble because pining for straight guys is not Judah’s style.
As a blizzard pummels the city, the men hunker down together to wait out the storm. When the spark between them ignites, will the revelation that Connor feels more than friendship for Judah bring them together or tear them apart?
Hooked On You is a 72.8K friends-to-lovers MM novel. It features a stressed-out paramedic who’s figuring out he’s not quite straight, a yarn shop owner with a bad habit of falling for unavailable guys, lots of knitting and snowdrifts, and a sweet, happy-sigh HEA.
“Dreams are matters of the heart, things that pull you along as if they have hooked you someplace deep inside.” ~ Jeanne Marie Laskas
Connor Devlin, a paramedic struggling with anxiety in 'Hooked on You’ by K. Evan Coles, is encouraged by his partner, Olivia, to take up knitting as a way to relax. However, when he steps into Hook Me, a local yarn shop, the array of yarns overwhelms him. Connor is clearly out of his depth. His relief at the arrival of salesman Judah is evident, but he is unprepared for his peculiar attraction towards Judah.
Judah notices the lost look on Connor's face in his store and decides to offer his help. He's drawn to Connor, but when Connor mentions that his partner suggested he try knitting, Judah assumes it's a romantic partner, leading him to believe a relationship is out of the question. He's also unsure if Connor is even attracted to men, adding to the uncertainty.
After Judah learns that Connor's partner is his coworker, everything changes. Connor appears to be interested, but Judah has experienced too many heartbreaks with straight men in the past, which makes him hesitant to pursue his attraction.
Connor becomes a frequent visitor to Hooked Up where he has a knitting class. He and Judah become good friends, often spending time together in and out of the shop. After one particularly trying day at work, Connor visits Judah even though a blizzard is on the way. Since the weather makes travel dangerous, Judah invites Connor to stay.
Judah and Connor head upstairs to Judah's room and settle in. The forced proximity that the storm provides ignites feelings that, before, had been kept in check, ultimately leading to a hot sexual encounter. For Connor, who has never been with a man, it's overwhelming. When the storm lets up, Connor practically runs out of the door, leaving Judah feeling bereft and guilty for pushing Connor too far too fast.
Judah and Connor encountered numerous challenges in their relationship, but they worked through them to be together. I appreciated the unique behavior of both men, who were brought together by their love of knitting. Confronting his sexual identity was a significant hurdle for Connor; fortunately, he ultimately decided that Judah was worth more than just a label. Thanks, K. Evan, for bringing Judah and Connor together.
