Detective Gary Mitchell and psychic Dan Porter are now investigating cold cases that are literally falling from the sky—a headless body in 2006 and a carpenter who fell from a roof two years ago.
The first case leads them into dangerous territory. The second feels like a dead end.
But what if they’re connected?
Gary has a lot of balls in the air—his work, his new relationship with Dan, his personal quest to discover more about his brother’s murder…. And the more he looks into these two cases, the more convoluted the path becomes.
Everyone is hiding something, and some people would do anything to make sure Gary and Dan don't uncover the truth.
Dangerous territory indeed.
Book two in the’ Second Sight’ series begins with Detective Gary Mitchell and psychic Dan Porter now mostly living together in Boston and adjusting to being in a committed relationship. Gary is still exploring his feelings around coming out as bisexual and having a live-in partner. Workwise, the Boston PD has offered Dan a full-time position and delegated Dan and Gary to cold cases, which is an interesting way to shift from the “Murder She Wrote” trope to a more plausible murder mystery aspect.
‘In Plain Sight’ shifts from the relationship to a more classic murder mystery as the two main characters tackle their first cases. The plot has all sorts of twisty bendy turns that involve a well-known senator, the Mob, an art heist, and a twenty-year-old murder. Do you know where you were on April 4, 2004 at 1:30pm in the afternoon? I don’t. I didn’t think the red herrings were as well executed in book two compared to book one, but how everything came together in the end was still quite enjoyable.
Ultimately a solid follow-up to ‘In Plain Sight’ and if I elaborate too much, I’ll be giving away spoilers! I do recommend reading these in order as book one sets up not only the characters, but an overarching subplot. On to book three!
