Book Review

Roan is BACK! I, for one, am beyond thrilled that the focus of ‘Legacy’ has returned to Roan and Dylan. I was so sad when Roan retired and they moved to Canada at the end of ‘Epitaph’. Don’t get me wrong. I understand how serious Roan’s physical and mental issues are in regards to the lion who lives inside him. There seems to be no cure for the tumors that the virus has subjected him to and his medications are constantly being adjusted in an attempt to find something that works. On the other hand, he’s probably the oldest living virus child, and as far as Roan knows he’s the only one that can change certain parts of his body outside of his virus cycle.

 

Roan patted the couch as invitation for her to sit. “It means I told you there were costs for our ability to shift at will, and that may be one of them.”

She sat down, and confusion was swirling around her like a personal light show. “I don’t get what that means.”

“It means I went through a shift, but none of it was external. My body stayed the same, but I wasn’t there anymore. The cat was.”

Her dark eyes widened as the horror set in. “What? But... that’s not possible.”

“I’m not possible,” Roan admitted. “But here I am.”

 

Roan is slowly returning to doing some private detective work mainly because being a house husband with nothing to do all day isn’t working out very well for him. Frankly, he’s bored out of his mind and since he constantly struggles with a lot of depression, having something to occupy his mind is really a win-win for both him and his husband, Dylan. Of course, he was “planning” on just simple cases with nothing too hardcore. Yeah, that didn’t last too long. Roan, contrary to what he believes, is just too kindhearted to say no to a couple who ask him to look into their son’s disappearance. The cops have exhausted all leads and it’s been nine months since he was last seen.

 

‘Legacy’ is filled with all my favorite things about this series and these characters. There were pop-ins with Scott, Grey, and Holden plus Roan’s internal monologue of snark remains the same. A new virus child, Maya, is introduced and Roan and Dylan will need to make some decisions as to how best to help this teenager. Of course, Roan solves the missing persons case which catapults him back into the public eye. Not something he wanted to have happen. Regardless, he’s there and I’m excited to see where the author will take him and his found family next. I love these characters and always have so reuniting with them brought me a lot of joy. Thanks to the author for a wonderful story!
