Fate has a way of bringing people together, like it did when Tucker Wright and Callum Richards met unexpectedly in an airport coffee shop and formed a deep connection in the short time they had to spend together. But fate can also be cruel. When Tucker loses Cal’s phone number in his hurry to catch his plane, he has no way of reaching Cal. Then a dead car battery and a snowy night force their paths to cross again, will Cal believe Tucker and ring in the New Year with a little help from kismet?
A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2015 Advent Calendar package "Sleigh Ride".
Meeting the love of your life, only to lose their contact details before you can get back together again is a special kind of hell. In ‘Kismet’ by Cassie Decker, Tucker has had a very rough time ever since his unexpected, fateful encounter with Callum at the airport. Their rapport was immediate, but the phone that Callum entered his number into breaks before it can back up, and Tucker has no way of finding Callum again. Three months later, when Tucker’s car breaks down in the snow on his way to a cabin in Aspen to celebrate New Year with a group of friends, Tucker has just about had it. This is the story of Fate intervening yet again, this time on his behalf and with much better results.
Tucker has been miserable and wishing he could see Callum again every day since their first encounter. His business is doing well, and he has moved to Aspen, but his personal life is nonexistent. His rational side insists that it’s time to give up, but his heart has different ideas. With a broken down car he has no choice but to call roadside assistance, but when the tow truck arrives, and it’s Callum who gets out, Tucker is incredulous but too elated to care. His enthusiasm is not returned, and Callum seems cold and withdrawn. Tucker knows he has some explaining to do and is ready to beg as well because all he cares about is finally having Callum in his life.
If you like the idea of Fate, or Kismet, playing a role in some people’s lives, if you want to read about two men who know they are meant for each other after two hours and a shared coffee, and if you’re looking for a read that goes from heartbreakingly depressed to the best of happy endings, then you will probably like this short story.
