Book Review

A short, fun read about a detective who tries to stay away from the “bad boys”, but can’t, and a vampire club owner who lusts after his mate and wants to protect him, but isn’t allowed to. While the basic story is fairly straightforward, the banter between them makes it funny and the heat once they hit the sheets is considerable. Aaron certainly gives Orion a run for his money, and even though most of their disputes are about the way Aaron does his job, and the danger he puts himself into, at the bottom of the conflict is the age-old need of the physically stronger vampire partner trusting that the more vulnerable human can keep himself safe.

Aaron is a detective on a mission to catch drug dealers, and he won’t let the little matter of a vampire master calling him “mine” stand in his way. He is used to putting his life at risk, and he has a hard time seeing Orion’s attempts to keep him safe as anything other than overbearing protectiveness. It may start out as that, but over the course of the story it becomes very clear that Orion’s need is not about controlling Aaron.

Orion is used to being obeyed, and the fact that Aaron seems to be less than impressed with his attempts to protect him makes him angry. It also makes him hot. But then, most of what his future mate does has that effect on the vampire master. He has been alone for a very long time, and doesn’t want to go on like he has, but that doesn’t mean adapting to his new life as a detective’s life partner comes easy!

If you like stories about sexy detectives who learn there is more to life than their job, if a hot vampire looking out for his new mate is your thing, and if you prefer your stories with as much action outside as inside the bedroom, you may like this short novella.
