Book Blurb

Ever since he moved to London, shy editor Eric has been watching his neighbor, Crooked Smile, jog every morning. Aspiring restaranteur Rhys eats breakfast by the window so he can see his neighbor, Bed Head, help the old woman downstairs clean off her car. When Eric's roommate unexpectedly returns home for the holidays, she realizes their idiocy and, with the help of Rhys's business partner, Andreas, tries to help both men see there might be more in their futures than they’re seeing through their windows.

Book Review

'Neighbors' is one of the short stories included in the Dreamspinner Press 2014 Celebrate! Advent Calendar. Thirty-one different stories, all revolving around the holiday season, and finding love and joy. What could be better? I'm happy to be included in this year's effort, and I really enjoyed this sweet short story.

Eric moved to London when his best friend, Janet, did. He works from home, his family is scattered about, and Eric was looking for an adventure. The problem is, Eric's not a very adventurous type. He's a homebody, who's not very good at face-to-face communicating. Hence the working from home gig. Now he's developed a serious crush on his neighbor, and, frankly, Eric's lonely. It's the holidays, and he doesn't know anyone except Janet and her fiancé. So, yeah. He's lonely.

Rhys doesn't understand why every time he smiles at his cute neighbor the guy glares at him. In an odd quirk of fate, Eric and Rhys meet at the restaurant Rhys and his best friend are opening. It's a soft opening, and the food is great, but Rhys and Andreas are having serious trouble finding non-wanker servers. Janet offers to help find qualified staff, as she and Eric both got through college serving food, and she knows people. So now, Rhys and Eric are in closer proximity, with both being alone for the holidays.

An absolutely adorable holiday story that I wish was longer. I want to know what happens next!
