Book Blurb

To escape a troubled home, Jamie works the night shift at a box store along with a ragtag group of punks, war veterans, and bickering couples. He's unsure what direction he wants to take in life until a mysterious new co-worker arrives.

With his long ponytail, faint accent, and quiet manner, Derrik manages to disturb or fascinate everyone, not just one pint-sized Southern boy who wants to escape his boring life.

Jamie finds himself falling for Derrik, and recognizes mutual attraction, but will the secret the older man harbors end the dream of a happily ever after?

First edition published at JMS Books, November 2010.

Book Review

Jamie, a young man just discovering his sexuality, is immediately enticed when Derrick, a quiet but alluring older man joins the night shift. Jamie’s resolve to journey beyond the limits that his parents set made him a likeable and determined character for me. He is willing to work hard to achieve his goals. As someone who has worked the night shift before, I can tell you that it’s not easy and you do meet some interesting characters, but I never ran into the same problems that Jamie encounters.

Initial curiosity grows into heated attraction on Jamie and Derrik’s first date. After Derrik rushes to Jamie’s side when there’s an accident at work, it is clear that their lust for one another has developed into something more.

The ending brings surprising challenges to the duo and it left me wanting to know more. It will leave you questioning what’s next for Jamie and Derrik. So I hope that Red Haircrow reads this and continues this short story into a series!
