Liam is a prince of a small, undisclosed country. His best friend is Deacon, a fosterling from a small, impoverished Appalachian town in the United States. When Liam accompanies Deacon on an emergency trip back to Deacon's Appalachian home, circumstances there force Liam to reexamine his self-serving ideals, and for both of them to reconsider their feelings for one another.

Book Review

On the surface, this story is simply hilarious. A prince of some unnamed country, haughty, spoiled, and only used to the best of everything, throws himself into the rescue of his best friend’s impoverished mother and family. His observations of real life, never experienced by himself to date, are funny, and the typical energy and effectiveness with which he orders everyone around (or tries to, it doesn’t seem to work on his friend’s younger sisters and brothers – not one bit) may seem overdone, but is actually very necessary. The underlying message of why he does all this and how good a man he really is warmed my heart and had me smiling for a whole different reason.

Liam is a sophisticated prince, used to getting what he wants. And when his best friend Deacon, a poor boy fostered by Liam’s parents now graduated from college, tells him he has to go home to the place he swore never to return to, Liam insists on going with him. What they find is Deacon’s mother sick and the suspicious reverend who was supposed to administer Liam’s parents’ donations neck-deep into all kinds of shenanigans.

Deacon is a great guy, but the goings-on at home have always been beyond his control. Now that he s older and with his best friend at his side, he is able to see things in a new light. Including his friendship with Liam, which suddenly grows into so much more when Liam kisses him – in a barn of all places. I bet Deacon doesn’t really know what hit him when whirlwind Liam takes over, but he certainly cannot complain about the outcome!

If you like stories about spoiled princes who are as effective working on their tans as they are at helping those who need it, if you want to read about men who have always been the best of friends to only discover their potential to be lovers is even better, and if you’re looking for a funny read with a great underlying message about loyalty and doing the right thing as well as a fairy tale ending, then you will probably like this short story.
