Cory thought she’d found balance on Green's Hill—sorceress, student, queen of the vampires, wife to three men—she had it down! But establishing her right to risk herself with Green and Bracken had more than one consequence, and now she’s facing the world's scariest job title: mother.
But getting the news that she’s knocked up takes a back seat when a half-elf hunts them down for help. Her arrival brings news that the werewolf threat, which has been haunting them for over a year, has finally arrived on their doorstep—and it’s bigger and more frightening than they’d ever imagined.
Cory throws herself into this new battle with everything she’s got—and her men let her do it. Because they all know that whether they defeat this enemy now or later, the thing she's most afraid of is arriving on a set schedule, and not even Cory can avoid it. The trick is getting her to acknowledge she's pregnant before she gives birth—or kills herself in denial.
Book Review
I am, unabashedly, one of the fans who has been waiting what seems to be a lifetime for this fifth book in the 'Little Goddess' series. I read the original, self-published, first four books and I reread the revised, newly edited and released versions. But this? This is uncharted territory with only a brief blurb to shed some light. To boldly go where no man, or woman, has. Well, except for the author, proofreaders, editors, and beta readers, anyway. 'Quickening' has been long awaited and I knew the author wasn't going to disappoint me.
Corinne Carol-Anne Kirkpatrick op Crocken Green, Cory, I love you, little Goddess, I really do, but you have a way of making easy things really, really hard, and some of the toughest issues look like a breeze. Okay, I know she's twenty-two and has been a target for too long, but I suppose I expect a lot from her, also, and sometimes I just have to remember that, regardless of the power she can wield, she's still very, very, very new to the preternatural community. But girl, you've got to get on board with the pregnancy thing. Hell's bells, Bracken has read 'What to Expect When You're Expecting' four and a half times! Thank goodness for Teague who has a remarkable way of setting Cory straight.
The funky werewolves are… well, funky. It's the best description for the rotting smell coming from these people who have been forced by a twisted elf into becoming shifters, and then doing her work in an effort to control Green's Hill and all who owe allegiance to them. It's a scary time for Cory, Green, Bracken, Nicky, Teague, Marcus, Phillip, Grace, Arturo, and everyone on the Hill, waiting for these things to attack. And well, we all know that waiting isn't exactly Cory's strong point. Although, Adrian sending Shepherd and Jefischa to stay for a while, and convey his love, certainly helped the overall mood.
I was okay when I had finished volume one of 'Wounded', 'Bound', and 'Rampant', because I read the original of those stories so I basically knew what volume two would entail. Now? I'm not okay. I'm hanging in the balance waiting to discover what is going to happen. It's going to be horrible having to wait. But I will endure (eye rolling at myself), because volume one is amaze-balls and I can't wait for the conclusion to all of this.
