Book Blurb

Lady Cory has carved out a life for herself not just as a wife to three husbands but also as one of the rulers of the supernatural communities of Northern California—and a college student in search of that elusive degree. When a supernatural threat comes crashing into the hard-forged peace of Green's Hill, she and Green determine that they're the ones in charge of stopping the abomination that created it. To protect the people they love, Cory, Bracken, and Nicky travel to Redding to confront a tight-knit family of vampires guarding a terrible secret. It also leads them to a conflict of loyalties, as Nicky's parents threaten to tear Nicky away from the family he's come to love more than his own life.

Cory has to work hard to hold on to her temper and her life as she tries to prove that she and Green are not only leaders who will bind people to their hearts, but also protectors who will keep danger from running rampant.

Book Review

Even though it has been many years since I read the first edition of 'Rampant', I still remember that in some ways it was my favorite of the whole series. I loved watching Nicky and Cory finally reach the place they were always meant to get to. I was proud to see Cory and her people standing up to evil, again, and doing what no one else had the cojones to do. I felt like a mother watching Nicky accept his place and find his own way knowing he was loved and part of the power structure. I was particularly elated to be on the sidelines while Cory schooled some snobby Avian parents and one very rude, stuck-up Avian ex-fiancée. I wasn't sure which parts I was going to get in which volumes of these second editions but I couldn't wait to be back in their world.

I would give anything to live on Green's Hill, to be given the choice of vampire or were, and be protected by these amazing people. The first issue they run into turns out to be one of the biggest taboos in vampire culture. No, I'm not saying what, but if you ever read 'Interview with the Vampire' by Anne Rice, or saw the movie, then you might have an inkling of what I'm referring to. Dealing with the aftereffects was bad enough, but Cory and her people took care of the ones responsible and it was powerfully done. Pun intended.

If that were the only thing Green, Cory, and Bracken had to deal with it, it would have been horrible, still, but they would survive. Unfortunately, there's a weasely, rat-like little reporter who got some pictures, has told some confidants, has the negatives in a safe deposit box, yadda, yadda, yadda. Just another example of the wonder of the human race. Pfft. Of course Green and Cory disagree on how to handle him but I liked Cory's way better, too.

Oh, Amy Lane, you just had to do the cutoff between volumes right there, huh? Now I'll be gnashing my teeth waiting for volume two to release. An excellent addition to the series!
