Book Blurb

One case to save my career.
One headstrong boyfriend I can’t function without.
I’m doomed.

Without solving a peculiar out-of-town case, Diem’s career is over. He can’t afford to live, let alone pay bills and run the business.

The case involves a mostly dead teen and a small-town police department who are convinced the boy suffered an accident.

All hope lies on the hunch of a grieving mother.

Unable to handle such a delicate situation on his own and unwilling to go bust, Diem invites his boyfriend/almost-partner along to make sure his rough edges don’t cost them a payday.

What he didn’t expect was a high school full of secrets and suspects, a bed-and-breakfast from hell with only one m*#@er f*#@ing bed, and danger around every corner because someone doesn’t want the truth to be unveiled.
Diem can handle threats. Risking life and limb to get answers is part of the game. But as the mystery unfolds, he realizes there is one thing not worth jeopardizing for a case: Tallus.

Book Review

Always read between the lines for the real words that aren’t even there.” ~ Michele Sandlin

After a tumultuous journey, Diem and Tallus finally acknowledge their feelings and decided to be together. They are now officially a couple. Tallus's understanding and love for Diem remain constant despite their challenges and roadblocks.

Tallus's mother suggests he invite Diem to dinner, a proposal that fills Tallus with anticipation and apprehension. He knows his family's affectionate nature can be overwhelming, and he can already imagine the potential for conflict if they unintentionally unsettle Diem. So, he decides to delay the invitation.

Diem calls Tallus to let him know he will be gone for a few days because he has a job offer; it involves a young man on life support after falling into a river. The police have labeled it an accident, but the boy's mother is convinced it wasn't. She has hired Diem to conduct a separate investigation. At first, Diem doesn't want Tallus to go with him, but later he relents, so off they go to Port Hope.

After meeting with their client, Weston's mother presents compelling evidence that her son didn't take his own life, including a series of mysterious events and unexplained occurrences that point to possible foul play. While still unconvinced, Diem agrees to delve deeper into the case.

Diem and Tallus begin interviewing individuals who may have information about Weston, but the situation is complicated. It becomes evident that not everything is as it appears. It's a challenge, but on that Diem and Tallus accept, more determined than ever to discover the truth.

'Reading Between the Lines' is my favorite in the series so far. Tallus has the patience of a saint to endure Diem's mistreatment. I don't like the way he treats Tallus. However, Diem does show some character growth, demonstrating increased understanding and trust in Tallus. Thanks, Nicky. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
