I thought I was helping him get his groove back. Turns out, he’s helping me fall in love.
Tyler
I have one rule when it comes to matters of my hormones: one and done. Consensually, of course. Fun with no complicated romantic feelings. Not that I’m built to experience those, anyway.
After my car breaks down on a remote road, I follow a lumbersnack back to his creepy cabin for the cell service. When a tree falls and blocks my car, I make the most of it. What’s more casual than riding out a storm in bed?
Except it stops being casual when I get hit with Big Feelings™ that equally terrify and thrill me. I’m a sure bet as a good time but high risk when it comes to caring for someone’s heart.
Cooper
I’ve been kind of a hermit since my husband died. Lately, though, I’ve been toying with the idea of putting myself out there again.
So when a hot guy with a fondness for d1ck jokes and a heart of gold offers to “clean out my pipes,” I grab it—and him—with both hands.
I know Ty doesn’t sleep with the same guy twice. So, after our unexpected weekend together, I focus on being grateful and moving on. But when he ends up as the relief pitcher for my rec softball team, the time we start spending together makes me want him even more.
Except after living through one massive loss, I’m not sure I’m brave enough to risk my heart again.
“If life can remove someone you never thought of losing, it can replace with someone you never dreamt of having.” – Rachel Wolchin
Tyler, of 'Relief Pitcher’ by Lee Blair, has a good life. He has a wonderful family and close friends with whom he runs Tap That, a local brewery. Even his sex life is outstanding without the dreaded emotional attachments that usually come with it; that is precisely how Tyler wants it. Or so he thought until he ends up stranded with a very sexy man who stirs more in him than what is below his waist, feelings that are utterly foreign to him.
Since his husband died, Cooper has become a loner. He needs companionship but feels guilty even thinking about finding it. Cooper knows his husband would not have wanted him to be alone forever, but finding someone else is another story. The last thing he expects is to rescue a man, Tyler, near his cabin during a snowstorm, who can show him how.
From the beginning, both men agree that this is just about sex, nothing permanent. Tyler has a reputation for never sleeping with a guy more than once, a rule they break right away when Tyler stays a few extra days. They couldn't have foreseen Cooper's baseball team throwing them a curve ball when they need a temporary pitcher and ask Tyler to fill in.
Thrown in together again presents a challenge for the two men. Cooper is in a quandary. Does he adhere to the rules they outlined before their encounter? No strings? Is there a compromise they can make to stay close, as friends, without being lovers? Cooper isn't sure.
Tyler is having the same issue. He genuinely likes Cooper and wants to be with him but is in unknown territory. He is confused by his feelings because of his "one and done" motto and hesitates to make an exception. But Cooper stirs something inside of Tyler that he can't identify. He "throws caution" to the wind and decides that being friends will give him company without sex.
Over the next few weeks, the men become closer than ever and spend an inordinate amount of time together. Even though they think they are being discreet, their friends see through their deception whether Tyler and Cooper are willing to accept their feelings or not.
I love the 'Tap That' series. All the men's stories have been good, but I've especially been waiting for Tyler to meet someone who would change his life. Thanks, Lee, for finding that person for him.
