Ashton and Lance are the best of friends. Emotionally and physically, with their endearments, intimate activities, and deep concern for each other, they're already more than friends. Ashton keeps reminding Lance that they are just friends and that their cozy behavior crosses the line, but deep down, he wants Lance to be his partner.

Ashton has been in love with Lance since high school, but he is filled with so many doubts that he's frozen with fear. Ashton is convinced that Lance doesn't feel the same way and won't take a chance that might cost him his best friend. Ashton keeps his desires to himself, while fending off Lance's flirtatious, sensual gestures because he is convinced that Lance, with his casual and carefree attitude toward his sexual encounters, will never be able to settle for the serious, monogamous relationship which Ashton craves, but can't go on like this forever.  He hates being jealous, but it's getting harder and harder to maintain his cool when it seems like Lance, instead of trying to temper his behavior, as Ashton requests that he do, seems to be ramping it up. Ashton knows he has to make a decision or lose his chance forever, but unexpected events fill him with the fear that it may already be too late.

Lance has loved Ashton since they first met. He wants their relationship to be more than a friendship, but as close as they are, Lance isn't sure how Ashton feels. He tries to be patient, to let Ashton have enough time and space, to eventually see him as more than a friend, but he fears that Ashton doesn't want to be his lover because he disapproves of Lance's casual attitude toward sex and his multitude of hookups. Lance wants to tell Ashton how he feels, but fears that he's not good enough for Ashton and will be rejected. Lance isn't convinced that things will work between them and doesn't want to lose him altogether. He's getting is sick and tired of being in between. Lance wants all of Ashton, but isn't sure that's what Ashton wants. When Lance has just about lost hope, a friend of his comes up with, what he considers, a foolproof plan to capture Ashton's attention for good.

This is a short, sexy story about best buddies who struggle with their transition from friends to lovers. Diane packs a lot of emotion, angst, anticipation, and teasing into a mere thirty-one pages, along with steaming hot moments both on and off of the stage where Lance so sensually performs. Being brave enough to bear your soul, taking a chance on losing everything in an effort to gain it all, is the ultimate leap of faith. For Ashton and Lance, it's their only viable choice. I recommend this story to everyone who enjoys sexual tension, angst, hot men, and over the top sensuality. Thanks, Diane, for the brief, but enticing story.
