Short-tempered, arrogant heart surgeon Jason Garcia grew up wanting a close-knit family, but believes he ruined those dreams when he broke up his marriage. The benefit of divorce is having as much random sex as he wants, and it's a benefit Jason is exploiting when he meets a sweet, shy man at a bar and convinces him to go home for a no-strings-attached night of fun.
Eight years living in Las Vegas hasn't dimmed Abe Green's optimism, earnestness, or desire to find the one. When a sexy man with lonely eyes propositions him, Abe decides to give himself a birthday present—one night of spontaneous fun with no thoughts of the future. But one night turns into two and then three, and Abe realizes his heart is involved.
For the first time, Abe feels safe enough with someone he respects and adores to let go of his inhibitions in the bedroom. If Jason can get past his own inhibitions and open his heart and his life to Abe, he might finally find the family he craves.

Do you believe in love at first sight? I do. It happened to me. Oh, I don't mean meeting someone, and instantly knowing you're in love. Nope. I mean, meeting someone and something inside you reaches for that person. Something you don't understand, and don't want to acknowledge, because that's ridiculous, love doesn't begin that way. But what if it did? I'm a firm believer that CC knows this feeling. This author has written a lot of books, favorites of mine, that demonstrate this very occurrence. And I knew that 'The Half of Us' was going to be another.
What do you get when you mix a thirty-six-year-old, jaded, "I only do hookups", lonely, cardiothoracic surgeon with a twenty-six-year-old, sweet, "I only do relationships", high school math teacher?
Abe is the first guy Jason has wanted to have a repeat with. Jason's view of sex is: in, out, done. But Jason has also always wanted the kind of love and relationship his parents have, which is why he married a woman, and tried to make it work for ten years. Jason just doesn't believe he can find that with a man. Abe is a relationship type of guy. His first hookup with Jason was Abe's birthday gift to himself, and, knowing the limitations of it, it was actually very freeing. A couple of months later, when they run into each other again, Abe, once again, wants to experience the amazing sex in an environment where he knows it won't go anywhere else. In effect, Abe doesn't have to worry about his emotions getting involved. But Jason is wondering what a relationship with Abe could be like.
"When their gazes met, Jason flashed back to that first night in the bar almost a year earlier. The one-night stand he’d picked up had somehow turned into the center of his world. Suddenly, his chest ached and his stomach heated, which should have made him turn around to find the nearest doctor and demand a scan and a physical, but it felt too good to be sickness."
A beautiful addition to the series. I loved Abe, and Jason had so much more to offer than he thought. Watching these two slowly merge their lives, with all the accompanying stuff that contains, including Jason's kids, was lovely. Jason needed Abe so much, and he didn't know it. On the flip side, Jason was the forever guy that Abe had always wanted. Even better? They both got the family they'd always dreamed of.
