Book Blurb

A wary human, a wounded alien cadet, and a bond neither intended—but both desperately need.

Wen never expected his first mission to end in betrayal, violence, and a desperate plea for safety. Still shaken from his former lover’s brutal attack, the young Travian cadet stumbles upon a hidden settlement where humans and Travians live in fragile peace. When survival demands he place himself under another male’s control, he chooses the one person who terrifies him as much as he fascinates him: a powerful human who wants nothing to do with owning a “pet.”

Jonathan Dax has spent his life mistrusting Travians—and for good reason. As liaison to the settlement, he refuses to mimic the alien tradition of taking a boy for pleasure. But when Wen kneels at his feet, trembling and begging for protection, Dax can’t turn away. What begins as obligation quickly turns into something far more dangerous: desire.

Behind closed doors, duty blurs into intimacy. Wen’s gentle resilience challenges Dax’s hardened beliefs, while Dax’s restraint and strength offer Wen the safety he’s never known. As their trust deepens, so does the pull neither can deny.

But the settlement hides shadows, and enemies move quietly beneath its idyllic surface. To claim their connection—and their future—Dax and Wen must confront the pasts that scar them and the threats waiting to tear them apart.

Book Review

I have more than enjoyed the sci-fi adventure that Samantha Cayto has created in her 'Alien Slave Masters' series. Each of the books has been action-packed, has marvelous world building, and unique romances. Plus, I had a feeling the plot in 'The Inconvenient Pet' would continue the treachery and betrayal discovered at the end of the previous installment. I will warn you though, please listen to the publisher's warnings regarding potential triggers in these books. There are shocking scenes of non-con and dub-con plus physical, mental, and emotional abuse. If any of that bothers you then these might not be the books for you. I was very intrigued to be beginning book five, as based on the description the storyline was taking a completely different turn from the norm of a Travian master and a human "pet".

What a predicament to find yourself in! Wen has arrived on a planet the humans call New World Colony Seven where a small containment of humans are working the land with a Travian military garrison nearby. Wen is a life scientist and he goes out one morning only to be chased and kidnapped by humans who have a secret, experimental settlement in the hills where humans and Travians are working together, calling it a Naturalist movement. In order to not become the junior boy to a warrior Travian who makes Wen very uneasy, he offers himself, instead, to the human commander, Dax. Oh boy. I should mention that it's best if these books are read in order as there are a lot of cultural traditions that if missed might leave you very confused.

As Wen and Dax begin to get to know one another, they still don't trust each other. They both have their suspicions regarding activities occurring around the settlement and if they'd only talked about it, perhaps some of the crap that happened could have been prevented. Dax certainly can't confide his true reasons for being on Seven and Wen is hesitant to share what he has observed from a few "former" Travian warriors. Then again, I could certainly see both sides of the picture, so the way it all played out was meant to be.

Never in a million years could I have predicted the direction the author was going to take this story. It was absolutely fabulous with some wonderful possibilities for future books. The rebellion against the Travian matriarchal rule is still going strong and humans are becoming entangled within the fighting. It's in the best interests of both parties to work together to destroy the rebellion. Definitely looking forward to more!
