A human pet, a rising alien officer, and a love dangerous enough to topple worlds.

Mac never expected to lose his heart to the alien who stole his freedom. Once an overlooked young man from Earth, he has become the fiercely protected—and fiercely adored—pet of navigator Narith. What began as captivity has transformed into a devotion Mac can’t imagine leaving behind.

But Narith’s home world hides old resentments and vicious political traps. A family tragedy forces him to return, dragging Mac into a labyrinth of caste expectations, predatory rivals, and a powerful male determined to claim what isn’t his. Narith tries to bury his feelings beneath duty, yet jealousy flares hotter than any star when another male touches Mac.

As tension erupts and danger closes in, Mac and Narith must decide who they truly are to each other—master and pet, or something far more fragile…and far more worth fighting for. Their bond may be the only thing that saves them, or the weakness that destroys them both.

Book Review

I've been anxiously waiting for this third installment in a series that I hesitantly went in to and discovered I adored. Be warned though, if you have any triggers for dubcon or noncon, this might not be the series for you. I couldn't wait to see how Stuart, Mac, and his alien, Narith, were doing plus I was hoping for glimpses of other favored characters.

Mac and Narith have returned to the Travian homeworld as Narith's mate lost their first child and she has taken a second mate in order to get pregnant quickly. This puts Narith's position as her mate in jeopardy and he has returned home, at the risk of his own career, in order to bond with her again. Mac is simply trying to keep his head above water while not embarrassing his master. Since his whole time spent with Narith has been on same-sex ships out in space, Mac is terrified he'll inadvertently do something to offend a female. Travia is a matriarchal society and the females’ word is law.

It's not a good sign that when they reach Orianna's home, she is already pregnant by the second mate. Her heir will belong to Rone and not to Narith, although the children don't belong to the men anyway. Rone is subtly trying to maneuver himself into the senior position and oust Narith. The worst is when Rone subtly suggests that since Narith is going to be with their mate that night, then he should share his pet with Rone. Narith is out in a position where he can't refuse and Mac is devastated when his leash is put into Rone's hand.

There was more to Mac—the person he’d become—than simply being Narith’s boy. Mac had an inner strength that didn’t crumble at the first sign of trouble. He would not cringe or beg for a reprieve or mercy he knew wouldn’t come. He’d take whatever this Travian handed out and demand more with sneering contempt. It didn’t matter if he wept and trembled inside.

Narith is beginning to see some truths he's hidden from himself and he's not happy about it. How can he tell his mate that he prefers the firm male body to her round and soft self? Or that in mating her Narith's social position was elevated, but he's not really thrilled with it because her politics and status concerns bore him to death? Before Narith can even try to make a decision, a terrible tragedy occurs and everyone's lives are thrown into the balance. The strange culture and political machinations on Travia come into play with disastrous results.

Oh my. I had no idea the direction the author was going to take. A very exciting ending that kept me on the edge of my seat. I'd like to hope that there will be more in this series but I believe the author has wrapped it up perfectly. Thank you, Samantha, I so enjoyed this world you created.
