The ghost hunters are working a wedding when they run into someone they never expected to see again. One ghost, three ghost hunters, and a duffel bag full of borrowed toys—everyone loves a good wedding!
This fifth book sees the dynamic duo and fellow ghost hunter Valentine end up at a most curious lesbian wedding. All three are part of the catering crew who seem a bit different in their own way. Great, the super hysterics are back and I have a front row seat. Allow me at this time to put in my standard alert that one really needs to read the previous books to truly appreciate and enjoy the tumult and interpersonal scenarios that come with this dynamic duo ghost hunting team. Fasten your seat belts!
Semi-nameless assistant, since R.J. has a pocketful of appellations she calls grasshopper which is my favorite of R.J.'s, actually chose a name of her own for this gig... Emily. She thinks this wedding job is about the most normal accompanying paying activity she and R.J. have taken while primarily dispatching ghosts. As grasshopper has mused, ghost hunting is more like a smash and grab robbery, which for her translates to get in, get out, and try not be recognized. That is often somewhat complicated because the duo and ghost all manage to rip off highly vocalized orgasmic moments while the whole “assisting said ghost successfully off the mortal plane” is occurring. However, grasshopper/Emily is starting to appear as if she is coming into her own. Magnificent!
R.J. often seems to me as if she were an alien from another time or planet. Or that they totally broke the mold when R.J. plopped onto this mortal plane. She marches to a different drummer and she sees things from a completely unique frame of reference. She also has a very funny way of converting her initials to all manner of combinations. To be quite honest, she is almost as nameless as grasshopper/Emily, except that R.J. is a rock solid constant. Today, however, her initials represents Ramona Junebug, which sent me off into a joyous laughing fit. One thoroughly unvarying force is R.J.'s single-minded devotion to freeing ghosts to cross over. If I were a betting person which I was, I would wager the farm that R.J. always reaches her goal. I am still intimidated by her, but I would join her team in a flash. Exceptional!
I imagine that no one attending this wedding would ever forget the sounds of the curious goings-on in the loft of the barn where the reception took place. However, only Valentine went up to investigate as I believe she wanted in on the action. Valentine pulled a mind boggler on me near the end of the story and I now hope she, too, will be a regular for the balance of the series. This group of short stories is positively amazing. Once again, I truly suggest that the four earlier books be enjoyed and then have one high ole time with book five. Sensational!
