Book Blurb

After three winters in Antarctica, Simon Bancroft is an old hand on the ice. The harsh weather and extreme isolation aren’t for everyone, but he enjoys the tight-knit community at McMurdo Station… and lately he’s enjoyed watching the hot new researcher, Asher Delaney, who’s recently arrived to study the aurora. But Simon’s just a janitor. Asher doesn’t even know he exists.

When Simon’s friends propose a wager, he gets a chance to introduce himself to Asher at last. But Asher defies all of Simon’s assumptions, and suddenly he finds himself reevaluating everything he thought he knew about Asher, himself, and falling in love at the bottom of the world.

Book Review

‘World Turned Upside Down’ is a really nice read – a fairly modest time commitment, and, my apologies, also easy on the intellect. We are introduced to Simon, the main character, and quickly find him, also, to be nice. While in unusual circumstances – working in Antarctica as an unskilled laborer – Simon is much like any young man we might get to know and befriend. Why not? His coworkers actually do!

‘World Turned Upside Down’ becomes a predictable, mini soap opera as soon as Simon and his friends make a “fun” wager concerning a possible sexual relationship between Simon and Asher. The latter is educated, tall, and gorgeous, a wet dream in this isolated environment. His appearance really turns Simon on. But in truth, Simon gets to know Asher as a sweet, shy, and awkward man. The novella allows these two to discover how very different the reality of the other is from their superficial images.

Now, take the soap powder from your shopping cart! Simon and Asher slowly, and beautifully, get to know each other. Affection turns to desire, which finally comes (pun!) to fruition in gloriously detailed sex. Then… well, know how, in a movie, if you are shown a gun casually laying around, you absolutely know it will eventually become important? So, too, with the early wager. It risks changing everything for the main characters but, not to worry, HEA wins out after all. Read and enjoy!
