A second chance in life, a second chance for love.
Jonathan Zheng’s spirit has been hanging around Aaron’s neck for the past five months. When he finally gets a body, he discovers a new life comes with new issues.
Between exploring a relationship with Banner, the hot bartender at Orion’s club, and learning more about the man he’s become, Zheng discovers what he wants in life might not be what he originally thought.
When a killer starts piling up the bodies, Zheng has to not only cope with the investigation but also battle his new body’s insane cravings. Will he be able to work alongside Aaron and discover who is murdering people, or will he sink into madness like he was warned about?
A true second chance in life is somewhat of a rare occurrence, but a second chance AT life, in a totally new body, is not something that happens outside fiction. Zheng is the man who died at the end of book one, but his ex-lover-and-now-friend Aaron, a detective determined to catch any and all drug dealers, wasn’t willing to let him go. Some pretty impressive vampire magic ensured that Zheng’s spirit was preserved and just waiting for a new body. And as this story shows, that may sound good, but it certainly isn’t easy in this case!
Zheng used to be a detective, and Aaron found him a body of a detective, Aaron’s new police partner, so it should all be pretty straightforward. Aside from the whole getting-used-to-a-totally-different body, wondering what name to let people call him, and not knowing if there are any loved ones in the life of the man he now looks like. And if that doesn’t seem complicated enough, it would certainly make just about any normal guy flip out, Zheng quickly discovers he has way bigger issues. Not that I can talk about them, since that would be a huge spoiler, but believe me, it’s substantial.
Banner, the bartender who works at Orion’s club, is hot and suddenly very interested in Zheng. But the relationship he wants with Zheng is not something the detective is remotely comfortable with, so get ready for a few major debates, some disagreements, significant disputes about how to handle Zheng’s new existence. And with Banner fearing for Zheng’s sanity, I can’t even blame him for his attitude.
If you want to know what happens to Zheng after he died at the end of book one, if vampires in any context fascinate you, and if you’re looking for a hot read with lots of murder mystery, some cool surprises, and a healthy dose of humor, you will probably like this short novella.
